An Accident I Will Always Remember
The date was October 25th, 2018 the day started normal day I went to school and then after school proceed my way to the gym picking up two of my friends to bring with. The two friends I had picked up where named Hunter and Joey. This day had taught me a valuable lesson something when I look back at it is bad of a situation it was, and the loss me and my family had taken was much-needed. The incident begins right after I had dropped my friends off I had been on my way home taking side streets the way I normally would. I had got stuck behind a very slow driver, and I made the decision to try and get past the other driver in doing so I accelerated very quickly in my car. My father had handed me down his 2016 Dodge Challengers Scat Pack the car had roughly 500 horsepower, so this car had way too much horsepower for a 16-year-old. Now getting back to the incident after I had passed the slow driver I had come to an intersection I had a vehicle in front of me, and there were pedestrians to my right my only option what's to go left because my rate of speed was way too high. Since I had been traveling at such a high speed in the turn, I could not break fast enough to keep control of my vehicle, and because of this, I had lost control. In my Collision I had sideswiped a tree ran over a No Parking sign smashed in the back of a Volvo Q60 and after I collided with the other car the airbags had gone off and the entire car filled with smoke and then I had rolled onto someone's front yard. Two things from the accident I will never forget is it the sound of me hitting the back of the car hearing the glass of the Volvo shatter coming into contact with my car also I will never forget the smell the smoke of the airbags made with a very distinct smell something I instantly knew I would never forget. Once the vehicle had come to a stop I was in complete shock I couldn't believe what just happened you never expect something like that to happen to you it all happened so fast. I got out of the car pedestrians screaming at me I'm too shook to listen or care what they say I run to the front of my car to see the damage I knew my car was totaled I look around the Volvo that was parked on the side of the street now centered in the middle of the road glass everywhere my coolant leaking from the bottom of my car into a pool. I go back into my car grab my license insurance and registration. It didn't take very long for the police to come to the scene three-four minutes tops. I remember the police officer his name was officer Lafrancis I handed him all my information told him I was the driver of the vehicle I knew there was no getting out of it my mistake was made. I had called my father and mother before the police had arrived. My dad told me to be very careful with what I'd say not to incriminate myself and stayed on the phone. Once officer Lafrancis sat me down and had asked me what happened he was very aggressive one of the witnesses had been watching the police officer he lying to me telling me I had to say things that I didn't need to say so he could get more charges on me such as reckless driving. The bystander started yelling at the police officer saying that he was violating my rights and that what he was doing was wrong, so officer Lafrancis decided to call for backup. By the time back up got there the entire block was blocked off there are seven cop cars at a minimum I sat there with my parents and waited for the tow truck to come tow away my car once it got dark it got freezing I was only in shorts and a t-shirt my gym attire. While we waited for the tow truck I sat there and thought about what my consequences would be would I lose my license what's my dad going to do am I going to be able to drive again my mind was racing. Once the tow truck arrived and took away my car away Lafrancis had written me all my tickets I got five tickets that night two tickets for leaving the roadway, two more tickets for damage to city property and one more ticket for failure to stop a vehicle to avoid an accident. I was stunned I didn't get reckless driving. My mom had driven me home that night. I remember walking down my driveway. It felt so empty without my car. Then a few weeks went by, and I had my court date, so my father had arranged me an attorney I hadn't met with the attorney before hand he had me get references to help make me look good in court to help fight off my five tickets. The court date came I remember I came in dress pants dress shirt and a tie I walked in the courtroom with my mother and attorney sat down I was the first one called up, the judge looked over my tickets read them all to me ask me how old I was I told the judge I was only 16 years old he said you're young you made a mistake your foot probably got a little heavy don't do it again and handed me back my license and dismissed all the tickets I was in complete shock I couldn't believe what i just heard it couldn't have gone any better for me in that situation no community service no retaking driver's ed no court fees nothing. I took that as a sign that I can't make that mistake again it's not going to happen there's no way. Even after I got my license back I didn't drive for a solid month I don't have a car. eventually, my Mom had decided that I had learned my lesson and I was ready for another vehicle is she took me and bought me a safe sedan instead of a sports car which was probably the best idea.
