The Sunset
It was that time of day again. The birds began chirping and the wind was blowing. I began to see those brown-furred deers slowly coming out of their homes to graze on the beautiful green grass. The sky turned into a scatter of reds and oranges. This happens every day and without it, the days wouldn’t be able to move on. Some people call it the sunset. It’s beautiful: the dogs ready to go out for their evening walks and the streets becoming vacant as the cars return pull up on the driveways. I see it as the entire days beauty being collected into one beautiful moment.
The sunset is a transition period from the day to night. It changes the atmosphere from brightness to darkness. This is also symbolic to how brightness represents hustling and hard work. It represents a busy day and success that follows. The darkness is when it gets cooler outside. It gives you a chance to process and reminisce the day’s events. It gives you a moment to relax. Every evening, my chair is waiting for me outside with my big old cup of coffee and all my confusing thoughts. As the sun says goodbye for the day, it takes all my anger, confusion, and bad memories with it. The sunset is telling me that I’ve done enough for the day. The sunset is telling me that another day is waiting to come. I see it all coming together as one big, happy ending.
This is my favorite time of the day because I have finally come home from running all my errands. I have come home from school and all my worries that I’ve been trying to run from. In the fall, the sun begins to bid farewell as the children are running down the stairs of their school bus to come home. When the bus leaves, it clears the view again so I can see the beautiful sunset. The sunset is even most important in some religions. Hindus perform certain ceremonies and rituals only after the sun has set. An example is Karva Chauth: when Hindu women, across the world, wait for the sunset and the appearance of the moon to break their fast. Even Muslims only break their ramadan fast after the sun has set. The sunset is not just admired for its beauty, but also for religious practices.
There are many reasons that the sunset continues to amuse many people. I love it because it gives me time to reflect on my day. The scenery is beautiful, with the wind blowing the leaves around and the moon just slightly taking a peak. Sometimes we are all just so busy with our everyday lives that we forget to just take a step back and admire the beauty that surrounds us.
