Patience Is a Virtue
I recall the first time I went to the Harry Potter park in Universal. When my parents told me about the trip, I was incredibly excited. I had heard about it from friends who had gone and had wanted to go for a long time. When we got off the plane, I was the most excited I had ever been. It was my second time on an airplane, so I had some semblance of what to do. I nearly burst out of my seat when the plane landed, a combination of nerves from being on the plane for so long( I’m not a fan of riding planes for some reason) and excitement to go see the park. As we got off the plane, I could barely keep myself from flying down to baggage claim so we could get to the bus that would take us to the hotel we were staying at for the week we would be in Universal. When we got on the bus, I noticed a TV sitting above our seats that was playing some kind of video, when I sat down I started watching, and realized it was all about the parks. From what I had figured out, there were about 5 sections, and a water park that had just opened this year. We were staying on a hotel that was super close to the main section of the park, called CityWalk. We got there and unpacked our stuff. I was eager to get to the parks, but my parents made us wait. We walked around the hotel, trying to find a place to get dinner after our nearly hour long bus ride. We found a restaurant in the bottom floor of the hotel called Jakes, and decided to go inside. It was a cool place, and was themed to be all about this fake explorer who apparently crashed his plane in the river that went around Universal. You could actually see it across from the hotel pool. All the employees had fake names they had to go by with a backstory to go with each one and how they knew the pilot, who was named Jake. Our server was supposed to be Jakes friend, who had come looking for him and found this restaurant. We were all starving so we tried to skip the backstory but my dad, being my dad, got really into and asked the guy a bunch of questions before we could order. When our food finally came, I was so happy. The food was amazing, and we all left satisfied. On the way out, we started planning where we would go the next day, as it was getting late and we were all tired from our flight, which had left early in the morning. The next day after breakfast, we went to the front desk to find out how to get to the parks, and they pointed us in the direction of a pier. We got on the boat that was waiting at the pier, which was filled with other people visiting the park. We sat down and the captain turned on a completely unnecessary microphone, considering how small the boat was. He did a safety presentation we would hear many times over the course of the trip. The captains of the boats had to read out the same script every time passengers boarded, which has to become annoying very quickly. When we got to our destination, we ended up in this huge boardwalk area. We saw signs pointing to the parks, and went towards one called “Adventure Cove”. Towards the entrance, there was an huge lighthouse with the name of the area on it. We got our badges scanned and went inside. A worker handed us some maps and everyone pointed out where they wanted to go. “Hogwarts!” I said while my brother wanted to head over to the Marvel themed section for the rides. We decided to split up. Me and Mom decided to go over to Hogwarts while my dad and brother, being the ride loving maniacs they are, went to the Marvel section. We agreed to meet up in the same place in about a hour, and went our separate ways. The walk probably took about 15 minutes because we wanted to check out certain shops, but when we got to Hogsmeade, which led to Hogwarts itself, my jaw dropped. When I walked through the archway, it suddenly turned to winter. There was fake snow falling from the sky, and the area was a perfect recreation of Hogsmeade from the movies. I couldn’t decide where to go first, but I eventually chose Honeydukes, the candy shop from the books. When we walked inside, we were greeted by shelves of human versions of the candies from the books. There were chocolate frogs that unfortunately didn't hop, sugar quill lollipops, and so many more items I can’t remember. I bought a chocolate frog, and found out we could have it sent to the room. After we left there. I saw it. One of the biggest reasons I had wanted to come to Universal. Ollivanders. The wand shop from the books, where they sold real versions of the wands. I had heard from my friends that some of the wands let you do magic around the park, and I was EXCITED, to say the least. I dragged my mom over to the shop. When we got there, I saw something strange. There was a line as if you were getting on a ride. We did eventually get in and get wands, and it was worth the wait. There was an entire show being put on inside the shop, with a man dressed as Ollivander leading it. He selected two kids( I wasn’t one unfortunately), and handed them wands. It turned into a scene straight from the books, with the two kids pointing the wands and saying spells, while chaos descended around us. They finally found the “right” ones, and we were let into the main shop to pick out our wands. I chose Sirius Black’s. He was my favorite character in the books, so i chose his wand. The trip was tons of fun. If I had to guess, the moral would be that waiting is always worth it, no matter how hard it maybe.
