Several times during my childhood, my sister and I put together shows for my family members. We would organize several dances, get old Halloween costumes, play music, and even sell tickets and food for our shows. One of our first shows, though, could not have gone worse. We practiced our dances for about a week and on Friday, “Opening Night,” we got ready to perform. My parents and my grandma were in their assigned seats and patiently waited for us to come out and dance. The first technical error occurred before the show even started. Our computer speaker was not working and, therefore, we could not get the music for our dances. It took us about 20 minutes to finally get the music to start playing, but our audience was very understanding. My dance was up first and the whole speaker situation made me so nervous that I forgot my dance. It was very clear I had forgotten it because I started repeating moves and just doing whatever popped into my head. After many mistakes in our routine, it was time for my sister’s finale. She danced for the first 2 minutes of the song and when she was finishing it off, she tripped on her costume, landing in the pool. My parents rushed to drag her out, but she continued dancing. Everything about the show was a giant mistake, which we realize now, years later. At the time, though, my family made us feel like it was a spectacular experience, when, in reality, it was a fiasco.
