Cheesecake
It’s the day before Thanksgiving and I head to the kitchen and I see my Nana and my sister Katie working on cookies. They have conversations which sounds like murmurs from where I’m standing from. They finish the batch of cookies and put them in the oven. I approach the blue countertop. I start with the crust of my Nana’s homemade cheesecake. I start crush the graham crackers. I walk to the fridge and grab the butter in the top compartment. I put the bowl with the butter into melt it in the microwave. I mix the crushed crackers and butter an knead until it forms a clay like consistency.
“Make sure you pack the crust in the pan well,” Nana whispers quietly not to wake anyone else up. I continue to press the crust into the pan. “ Okay, that’s good,” she said. Then we moved onto the filling. We start getting the ingredients and continuing to mix them.
“Make sure the mixture is smooth enough,” Katie reminds me. I smooth the cheesecake once more before putting it in the oven and the fridge.. We sat around the counter as we listen to country music. Dancing around the kitchen in our pajamas. We wait two hours but it doesn’t feel like it. We pull out the cheesecake to see if it’s ready and then put it back for the next day. I always enjoy spending time with my Nana and my sister.
