I sat there waiting for someone to say something. But no one spoke.

“When?” I asked.

“April” it’s only October, I won’t be able to finish the 7th grade, I won’t graduate with my friends. I’m leaving.

“Ok.” I stood up and started walking to my room. I closed the door and sadness wore over me, I sat in my bed and cried. This can’t be happening, I thought I was going to stay here forever and live close to my family.

“I’m…” how do I tell my favorite person in the whole world that she did not only lost the love of her life yesterday, but she was going to lose me too in a few months. “I’m…” I’m struggling.

“You’re what honey?” My granny said.

“I have to tell you something” I didn’t mean to say too serious.

“Yes sweetie, tell me” I’m scared, I can feel the tears coming.

“I’m moving granny” I said, slow and delicate, holding my tears back.

“Wow really, did your mom finally find a bigger house?” She said smiling. That is not what I meant. I started to play with my food.

“No. I’m leaving, granny” I choked a bit. “I’m going to another country” the smile in her face faded.

“What do you mean? You can’t, you have to stay here with us, you’re lying.” This is what I was afraid of.

“I’m sorry, I don’t have a say on it.” I can’t hold the tears back anymore. She realized that what I meant is not a game and she started crying with me.

“NO!” She stood up from the dining table, grabbing her plate. “NO! I won’t let your mom take you away from me, I won’t!” She said “ I’ve already lost your grandfather, I won’t lose you too” I’ve never seen her so angry in my life. She was in denial, I don’t know what I was thinking, I shouldn’t have told her today. I should have waited.

“I’m sorry. But hey, we have time, we coul-” I started saying.

“When?” She interrupted me.

“What?” I knew what she meant, but I didn’t want to tell her, at least not yet.

“When are you leaving?” She said, in a terrible monotone voice.

“April” I stood up and walked toward her. I stared at her, looking for the breakdown.

“April” she whispered. There it was, the breakdown, the nonstop crying, I knew she was going to react that way, so I was the strong one now.

“Shh, shh” I whispered. “Is going to be ok, you’ll come visit, and we’ll go to the movies, and I’ll teach you English.” I said, trying to comfort her.

“Please don’t leave me.” She whispered. “I don’t want to be alone.”

“I will never leave you. We’ll talk everyday and I’ll tell you all my secrets, and you’ll tell me how your day was.” I said while she was whimpering.

“We need to tell your uncle,” she moved away. “He needs to know.”

“Is okay, we can tell him in the morning” I said.

“No, he needs to know.” She walked towards the phone and marked the number. “You need to come here now.” She said to the phone. “I’m telling him, he’s going to be really mad and I’m going to handle him.” I left and let them talk, I heard yelling and crying. The door slammed open he stood there, his eyes red and puffy, he walked toward me and hug me so hard, like he would never let me go.
