Knowing absolutely no english Anne moves to the United States from Germany. She came through Ellis Island which marked that she had made it to the land of opportunity. Hard work was on her mind but she didn’t care. All she wants is a lifestyle where her family and her can be happy. I guess that you could say perseverance is in our blood.

“Her ability to work was outstanding, she was a strong willed person,” says Adam. This was probably why she could work in a bakery for over 60 years. Even though it sounds like a piece of cake working their it is actually very difficult. You have to stand on your feet all day everyday. She was great at what she did because she could connect to the customers; she would always come to work with a smile on her face.

“She came to New York City because it was the land of opportunity,” says Beverly. She knew that moving there would increase the chances of her being able to enjoy and support a family. She also came here to escape being captured and put into a concentration camp. “She worked until the day she died,” says Robin. She never wanted to show weakness in what she was doing. She always loved and prospered her job. She never wanted to show that she wasn’t capable of doing something, she never wanted to be underestimated.

“The job comes first because if you don’t have the money you can’t support the family, but if you can’t support the family you will have nobody to love,” says Robin. My great-grandmother knew that the work was going to be hard but she toughed it up and went through it. She influenced me through her ability to do all these things. She could learn a whole new language, get a job while she barely had anyone that she knew; she had to kind of start fresh once she moved to the United States. It made me seem like everything that I can dream about can be within my grasp. My great-grandma also left me the idea of you have to earn everything you get and you have to treat everyday like it’s your last.
