Mom to the Rescue
My mom, Maria grew up in a small Cajun town outside of Lafayette and she lived on a farm. She is the oldest of four kids. Growing up her family did not have a lot of money and her parents worked a lot and very hard. As a result of this my mom grew up doing a lot of chores and hard housework like cooking, cleaning, working in the fields and she even had a part-time job as soon as she could drive. When my mom was little she always looked up to her Aunt Ollie who was a war nurse, Aunt Ollie inspired my mom to be a nurse. After graduating high school, my mom attended Charity School Of Nursing just like her Aunt. She became a nurse and started working at Baptist Hospital in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Later, went back to school to become a nurse practitioner. While she was in grad school, she met my dad through some friends, got married, and had me and my sister. Now she works as a part-time nurse practitioner and a full-time mom. My mom is my hero because she is generous, loyal, and strong.
One of my mom’s best traits is her generosity, my mom often rearranges her schedule to help out others. One example of this is how she often works extra shifts at the hospital when her friends cannot make it. Last year, one of my mom’s good friends found out that her husband has a brain tumor. Since then my mom has been picking up her friends shifts and making sure her friend gets the paycheck from that day. When she is not working at the hospital she makes huge homemade dinner and brings it to her friend. Another example her generosity, was when she would help her best friend out after she had her first baby. When my mom friend had to work, my mom would babysit her friend's daughter, who soon became my best friend. By thinking of others first, my mom portrays the heroic trait of generosity.
Another trait that my mom shows is her loyalty, she shows this trait by always putting her family first. One example of her loyalty is how she is always thinking about her sisters. Whenever we got to a new shop she often picks up little gifts for her sisters. Another example of this is how she often leaves town to babysit her sister's kids. My aunt is a school counselor and has to go to school the weeks before and after the school year. My mom usually comes over to babysit them and take them on fun outings during the day. She also usually hosts one or two of the kids for a week during the summer. When my mom put her family first, she displays loyalty.
Finally, mom’s best heroic trait is a strength. There are many days where I wonder how she does it all. By that, I mean how she manages to work long shifts and still keep up with me and my sister’s crazy schedule. Between my sister and I, there are at least two activities per day before and after school, and my mom is the chauffeur, personal chef, and an assistant who makes sure everything is ready. In addition to taking care of the craziness at home, my mom has a really hard job. As a Neonatal nurse practitioner, my mom has to work really hard and is sometimes put in difficult positions. My mom has dealt with several babies who did not survive, and my mom had to break the news to the parents. My mom works day in and day out and still manages to take care of everything. My mom has a great deal of strength which she displays taking care of her family at home and taking care of babies at work.
My mom’s generosity, loyalty, and strength are what makes her my hero. My mom shows her generosity by always thinking of others. My mom helps her friends through hard times and is always willing lend a helping hand. My mom displays loyalty by always putting her family first. By helping out her sisters and always getting her sister's small gifts, my mom shows her loyalty. My mom has plenty of strength. She shows her strength by taking care of her family and her many fragile patients. Because of her generosity, loyalty and great strength, my mom is my hero.
