Laying in the middle of the forest, feeling the grass under me when suddenly something lands on my hand. I look at it and I see the most beautiful and colorful creature I have ever seen, a tiny little butterfly. I keep staring at it while I wonder, how amazing this creature is?

Its wings are really thin, probably less than a millimeter. Its body is completely black, while the wings are full of bright orange tones. Also, now that I look from a shorter distance I can see that the body is completely covered by tiny hairs.

As I keep looking, some questions pop to my mind, how can this little creature fly? How can it transform from a caterpillar to a butterfly? How can it survive being so small? It’s so small, but so powerful at the same time.

The butterfly doesn’t look scared of me, it looks like it’s comfortable laying on me. That makes me feel good, the butterfly chose to lay on me instead of on a flower or piece of grass. It’s probably because I’m wearing a colorful t-shirt, but that doesn’t take away the niece feeling.

Making the moment even more perfect I notice how the sky is changing colors as the sun goes down. The smile on my face can’t be bigger. When the sky is completely red and I almost can’t see the sun, the butterfly flies away. I say goodbye to it and I feel like it’s answering to me as it comes back to me, touches my head and goes again.

I stay there for a bit more, laying in the middle of the forest, feeling the grass under me. The smile on my face and the fulfilling feeling don’t go away.

I decided to write this piece after I talked to my cousin and she told me how a little butterfly laid on her while she was on a hike with her mom. Seeing her face shine with excitement touched my heart, and the way she told the story made me imagine it. I decided to write about this to try to make others see or feel what my cousin experienced, the excitement of a young girl about something as simple as a butterfly.
