Room 873 in The Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel
The Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel was built in 1886 and opened in 1888. In 1942 the hotel was briefly shut down ¨as a result of the scarcity in labor brought by World War 2.¨ It was reopened in 1945. ¨In 2011, Canadian Pacific Limited - the parent company to Canadian Pacific Hotels - merged the brand with Fairmont Hotels and Resorts following a massive corporate reorganization.¨
All floors in the hotel ended with 73 except the 8th floor. Legend has it that in room 873, a man murdered his wife and young daughter before committing self-suicide. People have said that they can hear screaming and howling during the night. They have also claimed that there would be bloody handprints smeared on the windows and mirrors, even after the cleaners cleaned the room. But when the cleaners came back when the people who were staying in that room complained, the handprints would be gone; nothing would be there, no blood, no finger or handprints, nothing.
They closed that room off. Got rid of the door and put the plaster of the other walls where the door used to be. People say that if you were to knock on the wall and then knock on the wall where the door used to be then you can hear the difference. If you look sideways to where the door used to be, you can actually see the outline of the door. After they did that to room 873, they apparently renovated room 875. Room 875 was and still is, next to room 873.
The people who have claimed about seeing the handprints and hearing the screaming and howling were always staying in room 875. Over the past few years, a few people have gone there and stayed in room 875. At first, they thought that it was just a pure coincidence. Little did they know, they were about to uncover the dark, hidden secret the hotel kept. While the people were walking about the hotel and exploring things, they came upon a secret, hidden door. Apparently, it was open; it looked like a part of the wall if it was closed but really it was a door. They wanted to see where it lead, but they did that later. When they got back to their room, and it was on their last night at the hotel, they noticed something on the wall.
The thing that they noticed on the wall was some kind of plaster that wasn't painted over. The people knock where the plaster wasn´t painted over and then where there was no plaster. The sound that they heard for each knock was different. After they heard that the sound was different, they went out of the room and knocked where the door for room 873 was. What they heard when they knocked then was the same as the sound that they heard when they knocked on the other side of the wall. They noticed the secret of what was there.
The reason why the people that have stayed in that room and heard the screaming and howling and seeing the smeared bloody handprints on the windows and mirrors was because when they renovated room 875, they put part of the bedroom and the closet in room 873. They noticed that room 875 was actually room 873.
