The Trip to the Island of the Blue Dolphins
In the middle of nowhere, or that is what it felt like. It has been seven hours in the teal blue Honda car. If you looked out the window it was only dessert. There were many dust devils far out into the distance. Clouds came rolling in from behind us. I was going on vacation with my two grandmas and my cousin. We were going to The Island of the Blue Dolphins. And I was so excited.
“Alyssa, hand me the popcorn!” My cousin shouted at me. She did not even wait for me to hand it to her, she just reached over and snatched it. In the distance I saw a city. It was glimmering in the sun. I knew that meant we were almost there. I don’t know why but I had butterflies in my stomach. I had nothing to be nervous for. 20 minutes later we were parked. I opened the door and ran towards the beach. My cousin followed closely. We started to gather out bags and find our room. we were staying in a huge hotel. it was twenty stories high and had the view of the entire bay. After we unpacked and relaxed, we went down to meet the group we were traveling with.
I made 2 friends that night and had so much fun. Going to sleep was hard because I was so excited to see them again. The next morning, I woke up early before anyone else. so, I waited and watched a movie. Once everyone was up, we got onto a bus and drove thirty minutes away. When we stopped, we were at a dock. It wasn’t a huge dock, but it was nice, and it was surrounded by kelp. I saw a big boat coming into the shore and wondered if we would get on it. I was so happy because I had never been on a boat that size before. But it left, and behind it was a medium size boat. I was not mad I was just disappointed. So, we got on the boat and traveled to the Island of the Blue dolphin. All day long we crafted tools and learned about hunting. I had so much fun that day. We ate lunch on the beach as we waited for the boat to come pick us up. When we got back to the hotel i took a 3-hour nap and woke up just in time for dinner. I had pasta.
Later that night I went swimming with my cousin and our new friend David. He was an only child like me going on this trip with his grandparent. The next day after breakfast we went down to the pool. There a team of scuba divers were waiting for us. The instructor said that we are going to practice for the kelp reefs this afternoon. All of us got into wet suits and got flippers. I hoped in the pool and swam as fast as I could. I was having so much fun. I love the ocean and couldn’t wait to go. All morning we practiced safety and how to swim. Once we got out, we ate lunch. I had a tasty chicken sandwich. We then took a boat back to the island at the dock. We walked back into a place which looked like a camp and got our gear on. An hour later we jumped off the dock and into the kelp forest. It was so deep and so beautiful. I wanted to live there. The water was clear blue and had cold currents. The kelp was fifteen feet high and swayed with the flow of the water. I saw sea cucumbers, starfish, rainbowfish, and more.
