The Year 2020
The year 2020 was full of events that are going to go down as history. Events that will not only go down in history but have changed our normal lives for the worse. Social distancing plays a major role in changing our lives. Another is masks; we have been forced to wear these for any and every event or place we go to, are they going to become normal? Next online school, this one has messed up all routines we work to get in place. Years from now we will be able to look around and see how much all of this changed us and our lives.
Starting off with social distancing, has this actually worked? In fact social distancing has helped. “Since people can spread the virus before they know they are sick, it is important to stay at least 6 feet away from others when possible, even if you—or they—do not have any symptoms.” (CDC) With this being said, yes social distancing helps prevent you from getting sick but it also ruins the little activities. You can only have a certain amount of people in a room at a time, you have to retain from being physical, etc. There are many roles that social distancing play that none of us are big fans of.
Next, riddle this, are masks going to become normal? In my opinion I think a lot more people are going to take masks into consideration when being out in public. Stated “I think we'll see more of it, but I don't think it's going to be widely prevalent.” (Mekouar) we can all say that wearing a mask was never normal for anyone. I feel after all of this comes to an end a lot more people will be more strict on wearing masks when a certain sickness season comes around. One thing I don’t believe is that this will become normal for everyone in our daily life.
Following, online school has taken a turn on kids these days. Students are so used to having a routine when school comes around and for kids these days it's hard to maintain one. Teens and kids are having to basically self teach at their own home. Kids' grades and gpas are dropping. “The pandemic has been a struggle for many including students who are feeling lost and as if no one is there for them” (spor). The amount of suicide and selfharm has increased dramtically. Being because it is so hard to be locked in a house all day looking at a screen. You can’t go out and do anything, you can’t see your friends, and you are piled with homework. Now, we all struggle with things much worse than online school, but this is just the cherry on top that nobody needs.
In conclusion, life today is not the same as it was a year or two ago. Things have changed. School is different, going into public is different, along with normal family gatherings. It has changed. Some may say that this change has brought us enough strength to rise above. Also that this change and restrictions are something that needed to happen in order to become stronger. But as most of us know, it gets worse before it gets better. But will it really get better?
