National Essay Writing Contest
If I were the mayor of the town of Greenwood, some major changes would begin happening. Greenwood has the problem of tedious, and pointless stop signs, congestion of traffic, and suffers from having little to do on the entertainment side of things.
The first thing I would do as mayor would be to tackle the problem of entertainment. Greenwood is a small town with practically every building in the town square being a restaurant of some sort. I think that Greenwood needs something different. It needs a movie theatre. If anyone wanted to see a new movie the closest movie theatre is about 40 min away. We don’t need anything huge, as that would not be economically feasible anyway, rather, we need a small scale theatre with maybe 3-4 viewing rooms. Greenwood is made up of a lot of young people, so not only would the theatre cater to their preferences, but it would also provide jobs for the same audience. I think a theatre would be very successful in Greenwood, as there is nothing else competing with it and because the audience it caters to is such a large percentage of Greenwood.
My second act as mayor would be something debatably even more ambitious, some might even say impossible. I will try to get rid of the most annoying stop sign in Greenwood. While getting things done in a government can be at a snail's pace, I am sure that with enough petitions and old fashioned door-to-door advertisement, we can end that evil octagons reign on our roads. With that horrid sign out of our town, road rage and speeding should decrease substantially.
That will be extremely important, because by the year 2040, Greenwood is projected to have a population growth from 9,666 to 24,495. That is 153%! With the coming boom of our small town, it will need a steady hand for guidance economically and structurally. It needs hands that are so seasoned and robust that you imagine them both tucking you in at night, and strangling your enemies at the same time. The coming years for Greenwood will be full of trifles and pitfalls, but with my guidance and expertise I know that my town will come out on top.
