The Statue of Liberty is a world-renowned piece of art that took nine years and many hours of hard work to construct into its final, present-day form. The Statue itself is a monument to culture because it is a cultural icon that has been seen by hundreds of millions of people, representing hope, desire, and freedom for every new set of eyes that gets the lucky chance to see it.

Hope is a feeling of trust that resonates with somebody after they see the glamorous 305-foot statue (Kiger 1). In 1876, when the construction of the statue was finished, it began to attract many tourists towards the area. Every single one of those tourists that got to see the amazing statue will always remember the sight like no other. Around this time, no other country had a statue that embodied them, such as the statue that embodied America. The torch held on the right hand of the statue represents enlightenment, otherwise known as hope for a better future. Especially for the many immigrants that were going to America on boats, seeing this great sight must have inspired them with hope for a greater life for their family and generations to come. Liberty was enlightening the world, and at the time, that idea attracted many.

Every single person on this planet has their own goals, aspirations, and desires. This statue surely symbolizes all three, but especially desire. When the statue was gifted to the United States from France, it was a sign of a mutual desire for liberty; the state of not having restrictions on one's everyday life. Lady Liberty is actually the name of the woman, and she shows desire through her upward posture as well, signifying standing up towards those who oppress, whoever they may be. The statue is standing straight up with one arm in the air, a powerful sight of a powerful woman representing a strong country, all made through construction to show a great message.

Freedom is the message that is most evident through the Statue of Liberty. Lady Liberty is holding a tablet with the date of the Declaration of Independence in her left hand. This shows the representation of freedom, as July 4, 1776, is the day America gained independence from Britain and became a free sovereign state (Kinger 8). Everyone who has ever seen the statue in person, whether they were sailing past America, traveling as a tourist, someone who was looking for a better life, or even nowadays, someone who just looks it up on their phone, can always see the tablet and understand its significance as a sign of freedom.

Freedom, hope, and desire are all great qualities to have, and they are all seen and symbolized by the amazing, world-renowned Statue of Liberty. Lady Liberty is a cultural icon for possessing all of these features. It is remarkable that a piece of construction can truly impact an entire culture and be a part of everyone's life. That has come from incredible art, and relentless motivation.
