My Name

Owen has an Irish and Welsh origin.  Owen means noble, youthful, and well-born.   Smith is English and Scottish.  It indicated that someone worked in metal and was a blacksmith.  Skwierawski means to have practicality, realism, and reliability.

But My full name has more behind it than its flat base meaning.

I am Polish, but my name does not have the color or feel of being Polish.  My name does not feel red or look like it is from Poland, but it has something that always gives a feeling of Europe.  Owen is not from Europe it has a weird feel to it but smith and skwierawski feels right out of Europe.

I got the Skwierawski from my mom and her side of the family.  The Smith from my dad.  The Skwierawski in my name is sharp and unexpected to those who try to read it like water breaking on a rocky cliff.  Smith is ubiquitous, flat, and bland to everyone because everyone knows someone with it.

Smith is not me, it’s not original. To me my name has never been rugged or sharp, it has been gray a beach on a cloudy day.  My name looks light and fluffy as you start but it gets cold and rocky as you move through it.  It is complicated yet sweet and simple.

It represents me and it is original to me.  I am Owen Smith-Skwierawski.

My grandfather once described me as a renaissance man and my name reflects that.
