After reading the essay Always Running, written in the perspective of first person by Luis J. Rodriguez, I liked it  the best to analyze out of the four other essays. My first impression of this essay was the understanding of the plot and the message the author tried to give the audience. In my point of view, the message Luis was trying to express from his experience, was to show kids in their age to always obey given rules and not act as they wish on their own. Therefore, my first impression for this essay is developed due to the certain strategies and elements the author used; such as the traits of narration, significance, and appeal to emotion.
 

The use of vivid description throughout the story is developed as he uses adjectives to describe the situation. In addition, the use of vivid description relates to the description of settings and places throughout the story. The vivid description towards the places helps the audience understand the critic situation Luis and Tino were going through. On line 27 on page 40, this following long text presents the use of detailed adjectives presenting the situation and setting altogether: “Tino and I raced toward the dark boxes called classrooms. The rooms lay there, hauntingly still without the voices of children , the commands of irate teachers or the clapping sounds of books as they were closed. The rooms were empty, forbidden places at night. We scurried around the structures toward a courtyard filled with benches next to the cafeteria building.” Nevertheless, the perspective in this story is written in first person as the author is the main character and protagonist. The first person point of view helps convince and express the feelings and internal thoughts the main character had during the event. This is an important aspect of this text because of how this is a true situation that the author has experienced so it is more than necessary to write this essay in a first person point of view in order to give a reader a chance to understand the up and coming events.
 

The main purpose of this story is to overall show how children should respect elders’ decisions, thoughts, and actions. The significance of the story is referring to the plot as Luis and Tino jumped over the fence without allowance and got caught by the police. This action that occurred indicates how a small event can have several consequences which may affect an individual’s future path.Even though the event could have been resolved in a much better way, due to the time the story takes in, the children were scared to be hurt by the police since it was common in that time.  “Shining a flashlight inside the building, the officer spotted Tino’s misshapen body on the floor, sprinkled over with shards of glass.” This quote stated on page 41, relates to the purpose and significance of the text as it is the consequence of not respecting elders or authority’s decision which in this case is the rule of not jumping over the fence.
 

In conclusion, this essay is considered and evaluated as a success due to how the author managed to get across the message and purpose towards the audience through various traits. The message being emphasized throughout the story is achieved through the use of description traits. As the author is capable of vividly describing the location, plot, setting, and characters the audience is able to create a mental image towards the purpose of the story which refers to various situations that individuals must respect certain rules.
