"The Silent Floor," by Sydney Sarri, expresses the irony of the the silence in the library well. She writes, "The third floor of the library is the "quiet floor", but all I hear are distracting noises." The library is clearly not a silent place as she mentions how she hears noises such as paper being ripped, computer typing, and whispering. She cannot help being distracted in her noisy environment. More sounds are described like pen clicking, chairs scraping against the floor. Despite all these noises surrounding her, she remains studious.

   I can relate to this piece as I also hear noises in quiet places.  The sound of fingers typing away on keyboards makes me lose my focus alittle as I wonder when I will actually write something on my paper. I am also guilty of making noise myself, but only I can listen to my own heartbeat. The whispering in my classes is also how Sarri describes it: "as loud as shouts."
