In "I Wrote This for Her," the author, "Olivia," describes her life after the death of her father, watching her mother "go out for a drive," and her sister rise and fall in front of her eyes. She explains how she sprayed air freshener when her sister had a bit too much to smoke and how her sister deteriorated. Fast forward a few years, her sister seems fine, concealing the pain which only finds its way out later. Reading this, I could feel the author's helplessness as she observes this unfold. She later develops a closer relationship with her sister because they have gone through it together. Visiting her, Olivia attempts to hold herself together for her sister. However, at some point, emotion overwhelms all interfaces. Olivia's love for her sister is so moving, so prominent, as it is with everyone else, as it brings people together, just like it did with Olivia.

I couldn't believe how distraught I was over the pain Olivia's family had gone through because I could relate to this on to some degree as my mom, my grandma, and me face the world alone. I, too, have watched a family member rise and fall with my grandma being diagnosed with dementia, giving in to aggression because of it as well as it being pent up for so long. When Olivia talks about seeing her sister cry, it shows how after years of holding back her pain, she finally exploded.
