Review of "Thai New Year"
Review of “Thai New Year” By Ethan Wood Reviewed by Duke Yao
“Thai New Year” is a well-written piece that describes a culture with wonder and amazement. We have all been to a certain place in our lives where we have experience something totally new and different from our normal surroundings. The city of Chiang Mai, Thailand is that place for the author, Ethan. He talks of the Thai New Year and the customs that the people participate in.
I feel that this piece is special because most of it is written as a flashback. Ethan talks to the reader as if he were there. He describes the New Year celebration as a fun-filled day with people splashing each other with buckets of water and eating street food. His friends accompanied him, getting accustomed to this culture with awe just like the reader. This is one memoir that reflects true appreciation for a culture.
