The writing titled “A Gripping Fear of Pencils,” written by Alexis K., talks about her fear of her own words. Her writing left me feeling like I somehow understood those who write.

At first when I started reading the article “A Gripping Fear of Pencils” it wasn’t what I expected it to be about. Since there was said to be a fear of pencils I thought it would be about being scared to get hurt by a pencil or hold one or something physical. But, I soon found out the author was writing about how she has a voice she is hiding. She started off interested in writing. As she said, “I was, at six, poring over historical fiction novels like an artist starved for paint.” But, she soon said, “I developed a gripping fear of pencils and learned to pave the road ahead without words.” She tried distracting herself with wanting to become a doctor and started focusing on science. What she had come to realize was she couldn’t keep her voice quiet, without words. Once you find a way to express yourself and once you find your voice don’t be afraid to speak loud. Everyone has a way of doing things and speaking. Everyone has a story to be told. Your voice shouldn’t be anything less than it has to. Even if your voice isn’t in words.
