Staying Healthy

Looking back 20 years staying healthy was not nearly much as a problem that it is today. It seems like technology has been making teens less active and who can blame them? You can have just as much fun playing on your Xbox than playing outside. That is why teens like me need to make an extra step to become healthier. Like myself, I have experienced the urge to be less active than usual at times. But I have learned to add exercise to my daily routine to make myself more active and overall happier. My first tip is to be hard on yourself. The hardest part of becoming more active is at the start of the journey. Making yourself feel guilty for something you did or didn’t do is an excellent motivator to choose the healthier choice. Knowing the consequences of eating that chocolate bar reduces my urge to eat it or deciding not to run for the day. Only when you are able to include exercise into a daily routine, it will be easy to do or even automatic if you get used to the changes. There is nothing more satisfying than seeing improvements with your own eyes like seeing the scale or reaching a new max weight when working out. There should be something motivating you to keep going because without it, it can be hard to know genuinely why you are conditioning yourself. I believe that everyone can do it; however, it will be more challenging depending on the state of someone's self when they start. It is never a good idea to lie to yourself. You must be honest to decide if you really want to change. It is easy to say that you're going to change and stay on a healthy track for about two days and then quit. I know this from personal experience. Before starting try and find a goal for yourself. It does not mean losing 50 pounds in three weeks. One way that worked for me is to see how your body reacts to trying to lose 5 pounds and go from there. If you are very serious about it, consider talking to a nutritionist to see how your body reacts best with. One problem is that staying healthy does not mean losing weight. Staying healthy is also being in a good state of mind. Health is not a linear scale. Health has many nooks and crannies that people in the 21st century need to look at for because of the world that we live in today. The reason why people were skinnier 30 years ago is that mostly the food that they ate. There were no preservatives that made food last for weeks and meaning that everything was grown locally. Now food products can come from around the world because of chemicals that make them last longer. An effect of these things is food allergies and bad diets. Also, it is much easier to get a quick burger is McDonald's rather than going to a proper restaurant. A consequence of “fast” is a lousy job. I am not a professional with this stuff by any means, but I have learned a lot of the last couple of years of my journey to becoming healthier myself. Knowing what happens to your body is a great way to help prevent it from getting unhealthy. Everyone has to start somewhere, and anything is possible if you put your mind to it.
