“Look at the way she walks.” The snickers continued behind me. I had never given two thoughts to the way I walked until that moment. I mean it is just walking. Isn’t it? To this day, years later, I still watch how I walk, nitpicking on the smallest imperfections in my gait. How could six words have such a large impact? How could six words affect someone years down the line? How could six words be remembered and mulled over constantly for that many years? I have spent years thinking about those questions, thinking they would help me deal this event. I know now that I should have asked myself this single question instead of those three. How could those six words make me stronger?
