The government shutdown has created many problems for politicians to resolve, problems that two political parties have to agree on, the Democrats and Republicans. Each group has their own strategies that can fix the issues but are both revolving around the same ideas. The shutdown occurred after Congress failed to enact legislation appropriating funds for the financial year of 2014. Many national parks and national sites were closed because of the shutdown. During the shutdown, approximately 800,000 federal employees were were furloughed, and another 1.3 million were required to report to work without known payment dates. This means that these workers are required to work, but they are not getting paid any money for it. Although, members of the army were an acceptation because of a bill that Obama passed only minutes before the shutdown. The Republicans were trying to make an agreement that the Democrats can agree on to repair the government. They started doing this weeks in advance before the shutdown. Their objective was to sign on to a proposal that would reopen the government, finance it for six months and repeal a medical device tax unpopular with some Democrats. This also includes raising the debt ceiling and paying the governments debt but Obama and his Democrats are saying that if they do increase the debt ceiling, the economy will be severely impacted.

After sixteen heated days of argument, the U.S. Government finally reopened. Both parties have come to a conclusion and the government is up and running like it was before. This shutdown is the eightieth one in the history of the United States Government. The previous shutdowns occurred due to money issues, unsolved agreements, or other political conflicts. The good news is that Obama has made a good transition and is now back into the routine he was in before the shutdown. When Obama made a statement just after they reopened, he did not look happy. He said many things such as blaming the Republican lawmakers for the shutdown and all the drama over the debt ceiling. He also stated that they damaged the economy. Obama’s political battles have subsided for now, but just in a few months they may continue because the deal approved by Congress only funds the government through early January and only extends U.S. borrowing authority until early February. This will only cause more problems.
