The writing titled  “Cross Country Actually Exists,” written by Brooke B., talks about how she feels cross country isn’t as recognized as it should be. Her writing left me feeling a little upset. After reading this I felt a little upset because of the snarky comments the author made, especially about football. She said, “And of course, don’t let me forget about football, They would probably die if they weren’t acknowledged, considering they wake up ‘so early.’” While I understand that cross country does deserve more respect for the athletes who participate and put numerous hours into running, I don’t think that making remarks about how, “two 20 meter sprints really took the life out of their sleep-deprived bodies.” justifies how hard athletes really work. The reality is that it is closer to forty 40 yard sprints, and while it may not compare to cross country, it is still a lot of running especially after hitting people, getting hit, and running around all practice. I don’t think that author is wrong in suggesting that cross country should receive more recognition. I just believe that the author should think about the other aspects of sports aside from running and realize how much work is really put in before bashing its players.
