Miami Street Blues
My new partner ( Walter ) and I (John) were walking out of the giant dark police
station down the many flights of stairs ( that happened to be rusted so much that I feel
like i would fall through it ) until we get to my pride and joy my baby, my
brand new shiny car at the end of the block the best thing on the street , and it was
looking better than ever on this sunny day. I tell my new partner (24) as we were
arriving close to my car and going to leave to our destination ( 20 miles away ) he's
nervous judging by his constant movement of his legs bouncing up and down, he's
brand new inexperienced and on his first assignment he's on the ride of his life.
I reached in my breast pocket and pulled out a pack of cigarettes I pulled one
out and I put in my mouth and then passed it to him “cigarette?” I said as cool as
possible he jumped faster than I've ever seen someone go for in my life “thanks.” he
said with relief I could tell that he was a heavy smoker because almost after the first puff
he was better than ever looking outside with a whole different perspective. I fill him in on
the details now since that he was now calm.
“Kid, you're my third partner on the case, this has been the case of my life and
something unexpected is around every corner I know because I’ve seen the worst
happen to everyone that knew and loved.”
“Why are you telling me this?”
he replied in a suspicious way,
“I’m telling you this because you need to know all of this,
down at the station they don’t teach you any of this, there teachings are all wrong you
don’t know this but about almost half of them are corrupt it’s sad kid but I know I can
spot them right between their eyes and they don’t know but of course I can’t do anything
because I’m not a rat that is my saying to you never rat EVER even if your life
depended on it. This has been the worst case in my life, I could tell that you know who
we're going after and why but you need to know that even though that this is your first
case you'll see a whole nother side to this city like I have. You though that you would
take the job because of how this would just be like all the tv shows and movies on how
you always come out alive and well and famous in the end, well son this ain't it, not
any of it even if you succeed in a case your whole life stays the same.”
“I never took the job over some t.v show or job I did it because of my old man
he was a cop himself and he wasn't just good he was great, the best in fact back in his
day until-” he responded with his now all show off tone. Then all of a sudden his head
went down real slow,
“Until what” I respond back at him waiting to hear the answer. He took one more
cigarette puff then thrown it out the window.
“-Until he was betrayed in the line of duty, I want to find the man who did this to my
father, that Jack is why I've joined the force to avenge my father and for me just old
fashion revenge, I've been working on the flies of his case for years and I had finally
found out what had happened your man that you're going after him, who is killed my
father he killed him when he was just like you about to arrest him the killed and receive
my revenge.”
I though very deep from that moment on about that kid there sitting right next to
me, and went over it all again as I looked at him threw a whole different perspective.
This kid next to me reminds me as a mirror image of myself, he doesn't know like I know
that it may seem easy to do what he's saying but he's absolutely nuts and I read people
very well and man he's so serious.
“He's gotta pay, he's gotta pay,” Walter keeps saying determined “That's why I
requested you to be my partner I wanted to finally get the man who did this to my father
get his justice and my teacher to teach me everything I need to know I've read your file
your to best on the team.”
The car is about a mile away from getting to the hideout it had turned off the city
and into a dump run down of a place run down buildings a most terrible plaster
falling off windows broken a old fashioned business it was a ghost town I look on my
gps
and then see it's right down the street I pulled over into an old run down garage that was
completely silent except of the old dripping of the old gas in the tank.
“Now remember what we were learned over the years he's going to be alone and
most likely armed but alone scared and worried.”
I then pull out an old rundown pistol that was black and worn down that was on it’s last
legs at quickly with exhilaration pump the clip in and say a prayer my partner then does
the same but shakes and stumbles. We run across the street on full throttle sweat
dripping down us from the blazing sun as we bust down the door to find him sleeping on
his bed and acting calm like as I flip him quickly and forcefully pin him down and arrest
him. The room was dark and run down everything was black all around one light was on
the middle of the room with the mess was all around it, it was the most disgusting thing
I've Ever seen and it was a lot coming from me.
“This is the end of you now.” Walter said as now in furious anger he’s acting bolder than I’ve ever seen him before. Walter pulls out his gun and c***s the trigger as he now throws Big Jim down I can see the anger now in his bloodshed eyes seeking vengeance on the man who killed his poor father.
“WHY?” Walter cries as he's eager to find out the answer.
“What are you talking about?” Big Jim responds
“My father, Albert Rodriguez why did you kill him I need to know WHY?”
Big Jim chuckles, “Your father was the first of many to catch on to me, as you can see that's what had happened he died while trying to arrest me.” Walter now not surprised at all turned around and just stared at the sun with a new face puzzled and now wanting to connect the dots looked around the dump of a town and stared at the old run building as now a piece of plaster falling from the tallest building.
“Tell me exactly what happened to my father before he died.” Walter tells Jim all calm like Big Jim thought to himself and felt that he didn't have a choice and then he began.
“Your Father was investigating me and then when one of my men had went outside to have a smoke he had found your father and brought him to me well after knocking him out first, he dragged him through the deep dark alley of the night and when he was now in my house he had awoken in the back room plastic all around the room, I could tell just from looking at your father he knew that he was going to die.” Jim took at deep breath continued
“Your Father didn't say one word during our brief little interview just smiled we tried to just know if he told anyone about us, nothing not a peep. It finally came down to it I load up a pistol put the mag in c*** it then aimed it at him and gave him one more chance nothing.” BANG the gun had fired in an way I've never felt before and your father with that justice look in his eye fell to the floor dead and that's it, that's what happened”.
Walter sat on the ground now across from Jim,
“Walter this is your chance to get your revenge, this is your shot to get even your looking at the man who killed your father what are you gonna do about it.” Jim says mockingly.
“Don't fall for it.” I say
But in this case for Walter there was no Turning back as he reloaded his gun and aimed it at Jim I knew that this is going to end for Big Jim. Big Jim now closes his eyes and know that this was indeed his fate he was coming to his end.
“This is for my father Albert, all of my life I’ve been waiting for this moment and now it’s come, Goodbye Big Jim”
BANG
It was done as Walter left the dead body of The one once infamous Big Jim once famous and feared by many, as I find Walter walking back towards the city and it’s bright lights now a better and changed man. He now just looked back one more time at me and this old run down place and smiled and from that moment on I knew that indeed Walter was a changed man. He had finally gotten what he had desired his whole life.
