Marilyn’s Christmas Story
If you could choose your future would you? I know I would. My life is not what you would expect it to be. One minute I’m helping my mom with the laundry and the next I’m at an orphanage for girls. I am twelve years old. My name is Marilyn Finch but nobody can pronounce Marilyn so they call me Mari. My mom was the most talented woman in the world to me. She taught me all I know. How to cook and to clean, until she died. It was all over the news. The sirens were screaming crazily. It didn’t matter about her as long as I was okay. She got in a closet with me but we both would not fit so she went to another one. I was so scared. The sound was too unbearable. I could hear the noise of the wind. It sounded so harsh, kind of like a train but way louder. Then everything went silent. I waited a little while before I came out. When I did it was hirable. Stuff and things were everywhere. I looked around and the only thing left standing was the closet I was in and nothing else. I began to panic. I looked everywhere for my mom but she was no were to be found. I didn’t know what to do so I started to hippervinalate and then I woke up in a strange room and then next thing I knew I was standing over a casket I didn’t know who was in it so I opened it and then it was…. I woke up sweating up a storm. I started to scream and a woman came in and gave me a glass of water. It was just a dream’ just a dream. It is okay you are okay you can calm down you are safe. I’m here now it is okay. It was the head master. “Was it another bad dream?” She asked. “Yes” I said. Well it’s okay now I’m here now you can go back to sleep. “I’m okay you can leave, I’m okay” I said sleepily. “Okay you can sleep now I’ll see you in the morning then” she said. Then she left. I laid back down and fell back to sleep.
I woke up that morning and went down to breakfast. Ummmm , just what I liked eggs and bacon. Then out of nowhere the head master called me to her office. Was I in trouble? I did not know so I threw my plate away and went up to her. She took my and lead me to her office. She explained to me what adoption was and told me a family picked me for one and told me I should be excited. “Should I” I asked myself am I ready for a new family. I did not know but I had no choice. She told me to pack my things and get ready to go. So I went up to my room and got my stuff and went back to the head council and sat down. I remembered the necklace my mom gave me. I thought to myself, it was a locket and a picture a me and her was in it. I missed her so much. And now I’m getting another mom and dad. I held back tears. A few minutes later a man and a woman walked in and the head council which name is Mrs. Loveless. The woman was absolutely beautiful. She had long, blond, silky looking hair and baby blue eyes. I remembered the pictures my mom had shown me of my dad and the man looked just like him. Was this weird? I asked myself. I didn’t know. They looked about like they were in their twenties. ”Hello”. The woman said. Her voice sounded soft. She sat down beside me in a chair. The man stood beside her. “Well this is the paperwork”. Mrs. Loveless said while handing the man the papers. “Just fill it out and wait a little while for the background check to come back and you will be set”. Mrs. Loveless said.” Okay” the woman said receiving the papers from the man. Mrs. Loveless just stood there while she filled it out. It went dead silent for a little while. All you could hear was the tipping of the pen on the paper. But now that I think about it the woman kind of looks like my mom. She has the same hair, eyes. Just beautiful. I guess the woman saw me looking at her and she looked up and smiled. I blushed and looked away. Then the woman finished the papers and gave it to Mrs. Loveless. Okay I’ll take this to the filling system. While I am gone why don’t you all get to know Marilyn? Said Mrs. Loveless. Then she walked out of the room. “So how old are you Marilyn? The woman asked. “I am twelve years old”. “Oh well my name is Hannah Snider and my husband’s name is Barnett Snider”. “We are very excited to have you as our new daughter”. “It’s an amazing honor for us”. She said with a huge smile on her face. ”Oh”. I said. Then it was silent for a little while. Then the man, I mean Barnett said “we are very honored”. “We already have your bedroom set up”. “You are going to love it”. We hope you love pink and purple. Then Mrs. Loveless Walked in and said “well we are all set to go”. “Are you ready to go Marilyn”? The woman asked me”. “I guess”. I said .Then the man picked up my bags and we walked to the front doors of the orphanage. I am not a Fintch no more. I am a Snider. Is that a good thing? I asked myself. Well I didn’t know. Then we walked outside and Barnett opened the trunk to put my bags inside. It has been a week since I have been outside being it is December 22nd and Christmas is just around the corner and all I have not been anywhere they will not let me or any of us out of there site. When the man finished he opened the door for me and I got in. I sat down and Hannah told me to buckle up, please. Then Barnett got in and started the car up. It looked expensive inside. Leather seats, furnished carpet. We were quiet for a little while then the woman asked me if I like candy and I said yes. We pulled over to a store and she got her purse and told Barnett to put gas in it and we went inside. She asked me what was my favorite kind and I said chocolate. She said it was her favorite type. She got two bars of chocolate and then we got back on the road. She handed me my chocolate about ten minutes later and said she was sorry that she forgot about it. About an hour later we arrived at their house. “You can walk around it you want”. Hannah said. “Okay”, thank you I said to her. Then I walked up to the steps. I slowly walked up them. It was the most beautiful house I had ever seen. It had a wrap-around-porch, big and blue and looked about one story but it could just be a hidden basement. I walked around the porch about twelve times admiring the view then went inside. It smelled of spaghetti and bread. It is my favorite food in the world. I asked if she needed help and she said no. Then she asked me to follow her. We walked down a long hall with pictures around the wall. She pointed some of them out. She went up to a door and in it was pink and had in big purple letters across the top Marilyn. She opened the door and it was prettier than I would have ever imagined. The walls were pink and a huge bed was in the middle of the room. “It’s beautiful”. I said. I noticed that a teddy bear was in the middle of it. I got excited and ran over to it. I picked it up and said “I will call her pinky”. I hugged it tight. She walked around and was showing me all she bought and then said I could get a bath. I said thanks and went over to my dresser and got some clothes and went to get a bath. I came out and Hannah was making plates. She handed me mine and I ate it all. Ummmmmmmmm . Good I thought. Then she told me it was bed time. I said okay and she walked me to my bed. She was tucking me in and noticed my locket and asked to see it. I said yes. She opened it and asked me if she was amazing referring to the picture. Yes I said very. I loved her so much. Then she kissed me on the head and asked me what I want for Christmas. I paused for a little while and then I said I wanted to see my mom again. Well I’m so sorry and then she hugged me. Then I asked her why she adopted me. There are a million another people who have been there way longer than me and you picked me. Why? Well we have tried for two years to have a baby. Two years and not a thing. The last time we tried we thought we had made it we had the room ready and everything and its name was Marilyn. Oh I am so sorry for your lost then I hugged her. It’s okay she said then kissed me goodnight and left. Then I enjoyed the most restful night of sleep since my mom had died.

I woke up to the smell of gingerbread cookies cooking. I got up and walked out and the tree was full of presents. They told me to open them and said I could have a cookie. For the rest of the day I had fun with my new family. Then that Christmas morning I got up and no I didn’t get to see my mom one last time but I had the next best thing…. A family.
