August 2022 fiction contest: Dissection
I knew it was the end.
But she saved me.
The girl looked upon me with curiosity. I was a novel thing that filled her glittering eyes.
She scooped me up and brought me inside the warm place.
We passed walls of occupied frames and arrays of occupied glass rooms
She dropped me into a small barren room, securing the roof tightly, before opening the white door and placing me inside the cold place.
I scurried impatiently wondering when she’d come back.
Then, I saw the familiar figures collapsed in their own small barren rooms.
I knew it was the end.
