After decades of horrific events of having people to be considered “property”, the government of the United States wanted to keep slavery. Slavery is like being in prison with no crime commited. The government decided to ratify any governmental documents. but they did want not to stop slavery. The government saw that having slaves made the economy stronger and kept labor stable. The whites wanted to maintain their power and authority towards the ones in color. Many of the slaves were coming to accept that the government wasn't changing their laws to create equality, but one young black man thought differently. Fredrick always seems odd than the others, but he wasn't the only one. Two of Fredrick’s friends, John and Harriet, had the similar mindset and ideas as Fredrick. They all wanted something and it was to be free. Fredick always paid attention to how much freedom the whites had and questioned why he is so different. Frederick and his friends always wanted to plan an escape to leave the USA and go up North to Canada where slavery was already abolished.

One morning in Fredrick's living room where it was separate from the main house , he woke up from the blasting alarm as usual. Frederick had enough of that ear bleeding sound. He picked it up and threw it across the room , and broke it. Shortly after , George , his owner , barged into his room and exclaimed why he isn't in the fields. Frederick stayed silenced and went off to work in the farms as he was told. While he was working , Frederick noticed that his owner was leaving the house without any protection guards. Frederick finally found a chance to escape to leave this place and be free. Frederick left running without looking back to leave the area off to get his friends. The night arrives , Frederick arrives at John's owner's place to bring John with me to leave America. John was hesitant , but decided to leave with him in regard to the consequences they would get if they got caught. Frederick and John went off to get Hariet from her place. They arrive to take Hariet with them. Hariet had no other option , but to leave with them.

After a couple of days of moving up north, they started to see their pictures of them that they were wanted. There was an absurd amount of money given to the person that captured them. They got frightened because everyone was searching for them. Hariet thinks they should keep moving North until they get to Canada and Fredrcik agrees , but John thinks they should go into hiding till the search settles down. They questioned John’s idea , but they went with it anyway. While they were still on the run,  Frederick spots an old , run down building and thinks it was abandoned. They walked cautiously and sat in an empty room scared for their lives. Hariet whispers to John and Fredrick that they have wished to be free their entire lives and now she sees hope that they will escape. Suddenly , they hear the most shivering sound they have ever heard , a loud pump of a shotgun.

The author's comments:

This piece is a dystopian society if slavery wouldve been kept in the world. I was inspired to write this because I love history and slavery was part of history that I won't understand and continue to wonder.
