"Upon his bench the pieces lay
As if an artwork on display
Of gears and hands
And wire-thin bands
That glisten in dim candle play." -Janice T., Clockwork[love that poem, dont know why, im not steampunk]

this takes place somewhere towards the beginning of season three.

"Galaxy?" Echo whispered, "Why did you help me?"

"hm?"

they sat together by the windstone, staring up at the stars.

"You betrayed your pride to help me make peace. Why?"

"do you trust me?"

Echo hesitated, but her heart said yes. "Yes, I think I do..."

"Then I'll tell you a secret. I know you're adopted. I know who your parents are."

"what? who?"

"You're a daughter of the sun, Echo. you were of the lions, but before you could be changed our mother smuggled you away. she was trying to sneak me out too when she was caught..."

"Our... mother?"

"she left me a note. she knew she might not survive, and she wanted me to be able to find you if she... failed. it told me your real name and what you looked like. i knew how old you would be. Echo, your real name is Solar. Our mother is... was, Dove."

"why? what was she trying to save us from?"

"I... i cant say."

"Why didn't China do anything?"

"Its a secret. i cant tell you, Solar."

"I'm not going by that."

"ok."

"I... I'm supposed to be a lion?"

"its to late now. a moon host cant be a walker."

"but... who am I?"

"my sister."

"what am I?"

"a daughter of the sun, princess of the moon."

"princess?"

"its a lion slang term for hosts, because you inherited the power."

"why me?"

"why what?"

"doesn't the moon hate the sun?"

"it was probably trying to get power by taking a sun child."

"I..."

galaxy hugged her, but echo pulled away. she didn't know what to do. so she ran, crashing thru branches. she ran straight past the cave, towards the forest, where she crashed into the barrier. frost had seen her run past. echo, or solar, lay there panting, tears streaming from her eyes.

"echo?"

"mmfhmph," she groaned thru a mouthful of autumn leaves.

"whats wrong?"

she spat them out, "go away..." she didn't say it with force, she didn't have any in her. frost silently walked away. 5 minutes later, she came back with an angry ball of fur hanging from her teeth by its scruff. echo looked up, but she couldn't see because of the dark and the tears.

frost dropped onyx, who hissed at her and ran behind echo. frost changed to human.

"what happened?"

echo rolled over, away from frost. she stared out at the field. that was where she had been found as a baby...

onyx put her paws on echos leg and stared up at her with big amber eyes.

"echo?"

echo silently stroked her, still crying. onyx gently licked her. echo fell asleep.

she woke up in her cave with frost watching her, looking worried. echos face itched. she wiped a leaf off her face.

"I wish you wouldn't do that. its creepy."

"you're ok?"

"why wouldn't I be? why am I so dirty?"

"you... were crying last night, by the school. you passed out."

the memories came back in a flood and she gasped. "wheres galaxy?"

"in the cave, I didn't let her in."

"I have to talk to her."

"did something happen to her? she looks fine."

"ask... ask her."

frost came back, eyes wide. "are you sure its true?"

"I know it is."

frost hugged her. galaxy peeked in and hugged her too. even onyx came and kneaded her.

The author's comments:

expect a revisit including echos death scene.

if they weren't sisters and galaxy white, echo would be asian, which is why she had black hair and brown eyes(at the time I didn't know if it would be a multiethnic location so I left it open. and frost, being a white wolf, had to be white, so it had to be a location where white is common)
