Obsession

Hi. I’m Jessie. I live in the beautiful state of California and have a wonderful boyfriend named Tyler. He’s really great. He is sweet, romantic, and he’s super cute. The only problem is that he has this weird obsession with unicorns. At first I thought he just liked them because I did but now as we’re 8 months into our relationship I realize that he’s totally obsessed. He has socks with unicorns on them and multiple shirts with unicorns on them. I tried to tell my best friends Sydney and Emily about it when I first found out but once I did they couldn’t stop laughing. I was in desperate need of help. I needed to break up with him but I don’t know how. I can’t just come right out and say, “You’re a weirdo and you have a bizarre obsession with unicorns.” That’d be too harsh. I mean he really is a great guy. He never forgets our anniversaries. He even surprises me with flowers, chocolates, and even stuffed animals when I’m upset. Even his personality perfectly meshes with mine. I really thought he was perfect until one morning I snuck over to his house to surprise him and I walked into his room and I caught him wearing girls unicorn footie pajamas and the worst part is that he had a mammoth sized fake stuffed unicorn in his room along with thousands of small unicorns all around his room. This obsession is too much for me to handle. I didn’t know who I could tell who wouldn’t laugh. I had to make drastic measures and turn to my oldest brother Alec for advice.

“Alec I have something to tell you and you have to promise that you’re not going to laugh. Okay?” I say.

“No promises, but tell me what’s up.” Alec replies.
“Okay. You know my boyfriend Tyler.” I say.

“Yeah he’s a cool kid. Did he do something to you? Do I need to kick his butt?” Alec asks.
“Haha no. He didn’t do anything wrong.” I say.

“Then what is it Jess? “ Alec says puzzled.
“Well….” I start to say.

“Yeah come on Jess tell me.” Alec insists.
“Okay. Well he has this weird obsession…” I say peeking up at him.

“A weird obsession? What?” Alec asks now more confused.
“Yeah. He is obsessed with unicorns..” I whisper.
Alec laughs uncontrollably for at least a minute while I just stare at him. I think he starts to calm down because he can see the seriousness on my face. Finally he says, “You’re joking, right?”
“I’m afraid not.. I thought he just liked them because I did but then I saw his room.” I reply.
“What’s in his room?” Alec wonders.
“A whole bunch of stuffed unicorns…” I say shyly.
“Now that’s super weird.” Alec says.
I can see the concern on his face and in his eyes.
“Yeah I know.. That’s why I need your help. I don’t know how to break up with him. I don’t want to hurt his feelings. What do I do Alec?” I ask desperately.
“Uh, this is a hard one Jess and you know my record of breaking up with people. Doesn’t that guy Jake at Pizza My Heart flirt with you when you’re there? Alec asks.
“Yeah he does and Tyler always gets so upset about it, but what does that have to do with this?” I wonder.

“You could go to Pizza My Heart together and hopefully he’ll get jealous and you can break up with him because he has a jealousy problem and boom you don’t have to deal with weird unicorn guy anymore.” Alec suggests.
“I think that might work! I’ll try it next week because we have a date after school on Friday. By the way if it doesn’t work I’m blaming you!” I say as I walk out of his room.
Next week.

“Hey babe where’s my purse?” I ask.
“I have it hun. Where are we going?” Tyler says.

“We’re going to the pizza place up the road. You know? It’s called uhm..” I start but am interrupted by Tyler.

“Pizza My Heart?!” Tyler exclaims.
“Yeah that place! Their pepperoni pizza is to die for!” I reply.

“Oh come on babe lets go somewhere else. Like maybe…” Tyler starts.
“Pleaseeee Tyler you know how much I love their pizza and I know you love their chocolate pudding.” I say while pouting my lips out at Tyler.
He looks at me with his eyes turned down but his lips smiling and after a few seconds of staring at each other he finally gives in.

“Ugh fine we can go there but only because I like their pudding.” Tylers says and winks at me.
I giggle and playfully shove him. In the back of my mind I can’t help but think that maybe I shouldn’t break up with him. “I mean maybe he isn’t that weird. Or maybe I can learn to deal with his weird, awkward obsession with unicorns.” I thinks to herself.
We arrive at Pizza My Heart and I can see Jake’s car. My heart starts pumping a thousand beats per second. “Maybe I can deal with it. Or maybe I can just break up with him at home. I don’t this is all just so crazy.”

I look at him as we’re walking into Pizza My Heart and instantly all of our great memories flash through my head. I stare into his beautiful blue eyes and look at him smiling at me with his perfect smile.

“Hey babe?” I say.
“Yeah?” Tyler asks concerned.

“When we get back to my house can we talk about something?” I ask.
“Yeah hun. Is everything okay?” Tyler asks.

“Yeah it is… I guess.”
“You guess? Did I do something wrong?” Tyler says.

“No you’re great it’s just…. I don’t know how to say this, but I think you might have an obsession with unicorns.” I say and look at him sheepishly.

He just stares at me in awe, not saying a word. We eat our pizza in silence. Jake can tell there’s something wrong with me so he just greets me like a normal customer. Tyler gets up to leave without even getting the pudding and asks, “Come for a ride with me Jess?
“Uh sure Tyler.” I say with worry in my voice.

We drive off and he takes me to his grandparents cabin. He opens the door and what’s inside freaks me out so bad I scream the loudest and highest I can and I close my eyes so I don’t have to see it anymore.

“Yeah it’s amazing isn’t it? I’m just so glad I could find a girl who loves unicorns as much as I do.” Tyler says.

The End.
