THE DAY was October 15th, 2011. A normal fall morning of Fifth Grade in Mrs. Jones advanced learner’s class. Blakeney Ridge was the local elementary school in Orange County that had two young children by the names of Jonathan E. Young, and Ella Rae Simmons attended at. Fate of true love found in a prepubescent grade school would be at an all time low. The odds were stacked against Ella and Jonathan, but proved you can find your soulmate quite young. Well, I mean, let's not be too hasty, whatever you kids call “love” these days anyways, I would definitely not want to excite anyone for any reason.

Ella Rae, oh what a story behind this girl. To elaborate, she would be what the normal person would call “the typical new girl”. She had moved from Carmel-by-the-Sea, a preppy, yet vintage town south bay of San-Fran. Her dad had to make the whole family move to a new job opportunity, now she misses all her old friends and such, yadda yadda yadda.

As she walks casually through the halls, and into Mrs. Jones Fifth Grade Class, the way her strawberry blonde bounced off her shoulders with a wave to the class, caught Jonathan’s eye, and not by a longshot whatsoever.

“Heyyy, it is nice to meet you guys, my name uh, is uh- Ella Rae,” she says, as her little legs shake, with a painful smile, trying to not be too shy.

“YO,” Jeffrey-Lee, the class “loud-mouth” freakishly points to Jonathan, sticking his chubby little fingers smack-dab on top of Jonathan’s head,

“HE THINKS YOU ARE CUUUUTE AAANND--”

“I NEVER even said that !!!” screams Jonathan at the top of his lungs, he blushed when he first saw her walk in the door of that classroom, but this DID NOT mean he liked her whatsoever, or atleast was what we thought.

“E-N-O-U-G-H you two! We have a new student, us, as a class, do not need to scare her off only on the first day! Jonathan and Jeffrey-Lee, you two report to the dean’s office after school, it is now time to get to know her and learn for the day.”

(Scene 2) THE CLASS had not seen Mrs. Jones quite angry like that, but did not care much about it afterwards either. The day had moved forward. The rest of the day went along smoothly,

the kids did get-to-know you activities with Ella Rae, but most of the class did not care to get to know her. Unlike Jonathan, he was mesmerized by the way she would twirl her short strawberry blonde locks, yet in a nervous way as the girls kept bombarding her with questions of why she would wear socks with her pink crocs. Jonathan had not formally introduced himself to Ella Rae yet, he thought this might be a spectacular chance to save her, and also to just win her heart over too. Away he walks over, knees shaking like a kid eating ice cream in the dead of winter.

“Hi, uh-”

“Jonathan, your cheeks look like reindeer’s nose leading his way on sant--”

“Leave him alone! Santa is not even real anyways, and you guys are not being too nice to me either, for being on my first day, so you three can just walk away,” Ella Rae scolds them, in a defensive manner to Jonathan, giving him a half smile, with a breathtaking wink.

“I wish we would not have had to meet so awkwardly, especially in the beginning of class.”

“That is a-okay,” Ella Rae told Jonathan. She gives Jonathan a firm, and a sweaty handshake. This green, shiny bangle on her wrist caught Jonathan’s attention because it was so beautiful to him. Yet, he did everything in his power to stop staring and especially at her as well.

“Would you want to come have snack time with me and play hopscotch when it is recess time Ella? He instantly regrets asking. He started to get cold feet and perspire down his new Old Navy Sweatshirt, which was grey, yikessss.

“Sure, no one seems to care about me anyway!”

“Okay, sorry about that by the way,” Jonathan Shares.

(Scene 3) JONATHAN AND ELLA RAE decide to go to the playground and have their snacks together on the basketball court. The hopscotch outline was also there too, Jeffrey-Lee was playing basketball with the middle schoolers from the next building over. He kept trying to bother them two, that was just in his DNA; to be an UTTER jerk. How typical, although the two new friends soon to be lovebirds had shared some great conversation.

“OW OH MY GOD, what in the world!” Jonathan began to yell, Jeffrey-Lee threw that basketball and it slammed Jonathan’s face right in, and he looked just like a pancake, with a blue mark on his face from that painful, nasty looking throw.

“Here you are Jeffrey-Lee!” Ella Rae lightly threw that flattened basketball right back to Jeffrey-Lee, the ball hit him right in the face as well, and made him shed a few tears, then walk away.

“What... a...jerk.”

“ Oh I know, he is actually my third cousin in fact, but he despises me for no reason, it is probably because his grandmother likes me more and I am her great niece, so we are not first

blood related family, haha,” Jonathan said, Ella Rae was astonished, and gave him an interested look, but all Jonathan could see was her sparkling blue eyes, just like the ocean’s glow.

“My face is still in so much-”

“ Here,” Ella Rae says, “let me graba the ice cubes out of my water bottle and the ice pack out of my snack pail.

“ You really don’t ha-”

“ I say it is FINE, you are too nice Jonathan,” Ella Rae began to apply the ice cubes on his face and told him to keep the ice pack on his forehead. In this moment, you could say that “Jonathan had fallen in love with Ella Rae”, again, not to be too hasty, love can mean completely other things than an adult audience could respectively agree upon. Ella Rae used the only water she had for that day, and was selfless, which Jonathan would think was the most attractive thing ever as a ten year old. Ella Rae noticed how kind and blushy he would get by just being around her, for only even a few hours. She started to think he was cute, a sweet guy, but being honest, thinking this only because he was the only guy who would talk to her on that day, but let’s just be nice to sweet Ella Rae shall we?

“What is that Ella Rae?” Jonathan points questionably to that sparkling green bangle he had noticed earlier on that morning.

“Oh, it is a mood bracelet actually, ha..ha,” she starts to sound a little broken up, a bit nervous, and worried he would ask what the color green would mean. Jonathan knew that mood bracelets changed color, and he wanted to see if he could get her to notice if he liked her, by asking whatever color he got on his wrist too.

“May I try it on?”

“Absolutely, I will tell you what your color means too, I love all those mood meanings, my parents are into zodiac and tarot card readings and their history, which I do not exactly do just yet.”

“Thanks, wow it is turning bright green already on me too? How funny..” Jonathan begins to say, a little bit quieter than the average person could hear. The Rudolph reference actually made sense now, those nasty girls said to him, but they were right, especially right now.

“So, like what does this mean? We both have the same color…”

“Oh no, I probably should have told you,” Ella Rae has painted a suspicious smile across her face, “It means you feel romantic, or like that you ha-”

“Oh I completely get it now,” Jonathan, being ten, and weird, and an inexperienced teenager, grabs her face and gives her the biggest peck of her life. This time, he did not instantly regret this action he had just made, a move upon Ella Rae.

“ I.. I am sorry Ella Rae, I like you, the first moment I laid eyes on you in Mrs. Jones Class today. You just mesmerized me, your personality is like a pot of gold that I struck rich upon.”

“No, No, No, it is fine Jonathan, I feel the same way, that was actually my first kiss. You were so kind to me this morning, and helped me out with those mean girls, I could tell you genuinely cared about me before you even knew me.”

“RING RING RING, ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS: OUTSIDE TIME IS OVER, PLEASE REPORT TO THE BUS AND CAR LOT TO DEPART FROM BLAKENEY FOR THE DAY. THANK YOU, PRINCIPAL JOLE.”

“Darn it all, I found a girl I like, and now I have to go home,” says Jonathan, “Can I give you my mom’s email for them to schedule a play “date” for us?”

“YES, ABSOLUTELY,” she exclaimed, “want to walk home together, I live just up the street now?”

“Wait, me too! Let’s go, maybe our parents will be waiting for us at our blocks and we can tell them we found girlfriend and boyfriend in each other today!”

“I can’t believe you consider me a girlfriend, you did not even ask me! But it is okay, I am happy to have a friend that is a boy like you, that I like as well more than that, is that how I say it?
“Yes, absolutely, you are too funny,” shares Jonathan.

(Closing Statement) THE TWO of them had happily walked off of the playground together, hands intertwined with each other, the end.
