In the Dark
The smell of gasoline and smoke awoke me. All I can see is darkness and through a small hole, I can see the bright flashing lights of the emergency vehicles. I can hear the crying of the helpless people all around completely devoured by their own cars. I’ve tasted this before, this bitter salty taste of blood. It reminds me of when I was a kid and my father would help me pull a loose tooth out; or when I was viciously attacked at school for being different. As my eyes began to droop I felt something, an arm. An arm grabbed me and pulled me out of my car. But let me tell you what happened before this horrific accident. I was getting ready to see my father. We have breakfast about twice a month because we don’t see each other a lot. I live with my husband and any chance I get to get away from home I take it. We don’t have any children because I found out a few years ago I am infertile. My husband took that to his advantage a lot. Whenever I go out to see my father he goes out somewhere and does whatever. So when I wake up he’s already gone. But I left my house and was singing my favorite songs on the radio. My morning was perfect, until, I hear the screeching sound of the tires coming from the car behind me.
