Shiba Inu
As I woke up, my body felt strange, and my surroundings looked different; I couldn’t see any colors, and I could smell a lot of my environment. I tried to get up from my bed, but it felt really difficult. I felt a lot of fur on my skin, and my body didn’t feel right. I finally turned around and I realized it; I woke up as a shiba inu.
I wasn’t sure if I was still in a dream, or if I was actually seeing the world correctly. One thing I did know was that I probably still had to get ready for the day. I wasn’t sure what to think of myself, but I had to at least try and make something out of the day.
I tried to get up again, but the blankets were wrapped around me tightly, moreover, I was sleeping under three blankets and a pillow. I needed to get out of bed. I had no idea what the time was, and I wasn’t sure if I was actually a dog. All I wanted to do was get out of bed and try to figure out what my next move would be.
I tried to think of ways to get out of bed. My first idea was to roll off the bed, but that was near impossible. I couldn’t move my muscles. I thought about asking my parents for help, but I stopped myself as I didn’t know what my voice would sound like.
I then realized that since I was a dog, my other two dogs would be able to smell a difference in me. From what I could tell, it was early morning, perhaps around 6, and no one was awake yet.
I tried again to think of another option to break free, but I knew my only way off the bed was to roll off. I started to push myself around to the left, and then the right, left, right, and on and on and on. I tried to free my legs in the process, but I couldn’t move them anywhere. I finally got the strength to make a hard left, where I met my face to the floor.
I guess I made a loud noise, as my dogs woke up. The silence was broken at first by a snort and a small bark. Then a collar could be heard moving, and the sounds of small steps. I heard snorting and then a childish but loud dog bark. My dad decided to wake up at that moment as well. The last thing I saw was his legs right on top of me.
I woke up around the afternoon. I was very hungry and I needed to use the restroom. Ironically, I was in the bathroom and on the dog bed. I tried getting up, but I was only met by failure. A few attempts later, I was able to smell odors unexplainable to man. I tried to get up but then I heard a loud bark. I look up and I am met face to face with a muzzle. As it moves around me, I see a body move around me. I realized it was my Pug. As I try to get up again, I am knocked back by an object, or at least I thought it was an object. I feel hair squirming around my body and a tail on my face. I am finally able to see that it was my Biewer Terrier. I try to get up again, but Sydney wasn’t leaving me alone. Finally, I snap.
“Sydney!”
Suddenly Hurrem stops moving and begins to bark. I try to communicate again, this time for help.
“Mom? Dad? Help me!”
That’s when it hit me; It was Thursday! My sister was at school, and my parents were at work. The dogs were holding the fort while they were away. At this point I really had to go, so I used all my force, my desire to go, and I finally was able to get up. Since Sydney was still young, we still had pads around the bathroom, which is exactly what I used. I tried to have Hurrem stop barking at me afterwards.
“HURREM!!!”
I stopped. She stopped, but not because I yelled, but because I barked. My own voice had transformed. I didn't notice it before, or maybe y voice was still normal before. I didn't know what to do. The hunger was hitting me, and I then sniffed something. I smelled like the dog food we always had for our pets. Now I was a pet too, and I somehow knew where t find my food. I don’t know how, but I was able to jump onto the bathroom counter, where my food was waiting.
I ate it and at first it had an awful taste, but slowly it got better. It wasn’t as good as human food, but it was edible. I then tried to jump down, but landed face first on Hurrem. Her tail wasn’t rolled up anymore and her back fur was getting darker. She was mad at me but startled.
I wanted figure out what to do next, when I heard a quite female voice. I didn’t make out what she said, or where it came from. I looked around, before being met with Hurrem and Sydney.
“Are you the brother?” was what I heard cme out of Hurrem’s mouth, in a gentle, warm, but dominating voice.
After talking with my dogs, I only had one goal; Sleep. I knew that if I went to sleep, I would get out of this nightmare. My family couldn't recognize me and treated me as some random dog. They were crying and discussing what they thought about my “absence.”
I knew that if I went to bed, I could go back to living a normal life. I tried to go to bed, but unlike my dogs, I couldn’t feel asleep. I wasn’t tired at all. I knew I had to wait for night. As I waited, I communicated with my dogs. I told them my true identity, and they had their suspicions as I had a very similar smell. I told them that I needed to get through the day and go to bed.
Hurrem started telling me to sleep as she always does that every chance she gets. Sydney just said to enjoy the day, and as time passes, you would get tired and sleep. I told them that wasn’t me at all. I knew that I wasn’t gonna just fall asleep and I knew having fun wouldn’t help me. So Instead, I just walked around the house. I went through the halls and jumped on the beds.
My dad must of thought that I was bored, because he said that he was going to take me outside. He decided that the letches we had were not suitable for me, so he took me outside without them
I realized that this was my best way of having fun. He took me to the park and I just ran around, and was trying to enjoy what the world felt like for the time being. I played with other dog’s, chased birds, and even played fetch.
My dad was trying to enjoy some time alone as he was trying to recollect his thoughts on what had happened this morning. He thought I left the house and I had somehow left a dog as some sort of gift.
When I got home, Sydney was trying to play with Hurrem, but all she was trying to do was get some more sleep.
“Come on I want to play!”
“I want to sleep...stop it-”
“I’ll play with you, sydney!” I knew that I had to make time fly, so why not have fun?
As we started to play, I noticed something. I was able to make out a lot of the world around me. Sure, there was no color, but who needs color when you can smell the nicest of odors, feel the greatest of emotions, move like no other human can, listen to the world’s greatest sounds. It wasn’t as bad as I thought. With time, Hurem joined in too, and together, we went into ur own world. We created our own fun. We enjoyed everything about it. As time went by, we all got tired.
I suggested the bathroom, and the three of us went exactly there, and slept peacefully. It was sad once I found out it wasn’t a dream. I was a dog forever. At least until this strange metamorphosis effect wore off. I was very disappointed until my dogs woke up, looked at me, and went to the gate and began to bark. It then hit me that my new life had only began.
