The Tree
Dappled sunlight shone down on her, branches and leaves forming odd shadows. She closed her eyes and rested against the tree, feeling the cool breeze on her face and the rough bark against her back. Her hair was brown to match the wood, and her dress was green to match the leaves. For a long moment, she simply rested there, listening to the sound of the wind sighing through the leaves. A small smile graced her face; and she began to hum quietly. The tree almost seemed to hum along with her; and the two stood there for a long time, humming and simply enjoying each other’s company. But eventually, it was time for the girl to leave. She gently patted the tree’s trunk, then walked away sadly. The tree wondered whether or not her daughter would return to visit her again tomorrow.
