Monday Night Football
You go home early because your boss is dead.
You switch on the lights and glance at your mail. Bills. You start to watch a football game but you’re interrupted when your kid is dropped home from school. You try to hug him and ask “how was your day?” and he says “fine” and you ask “what did you learn today?” and he says “stuff” and that’s good enough for you. You sit back down on the couch and watch more football until your wife calls to say she’ll be home in an hour and “yes darling, please have dinner ready.” So you order a pizza-pepperoni and sausage- and you’re back to the game. The game is interrupted with news on the murder of your boss so you flip the channel to a poker match and put your feet up on the table. You must have fallen asleep because soon your kid is yelling and your wife’s complaining so you pretend you’re deaf and you fall back asleep and dream of the good old days when you were your kid and when your dad was you.
