Hi, My Name is Kate Johnson
Mom okay?. I know it's been hard for you since your mother's passing. I understand how you feel. Stay strong and we’ll keep in touch. I need to go away for a bit. I know it will be hard getting to know your Step Mom but it is my only choice to make her your guardian. Remember, we will keep in touch.” “Mr. Woods, we need to go now. The RI State Police car is waiting out front. Let’s go, get a move on!” Mr. Woods handed Grace a picture and told her that this was just a reminder of her loving parents. Three police officers handcuffed and escorted Mr. Woods from the house. They took him outside into the brisk Providence air and into the police car he went.
All 5’4’’ of Grace looked awestruck and extremely destroyed that her father was being taken away. Until the door shut. Then she grinned a sly, evil grin. Grace’s step mom, Hannah Clark, walks into the house. “Hey Grace, how are you doing?” said Miss Clark. “I’m doing fine.” mumbled Grace. “Are you ready to get to work? Let’s do this.” Miss Clark and Grace had been secretly meeting when Mr. Woods wasn’t around. Mr. Woods and Miss Clark have been dating for 6 months, but they had been seeing each other outside of their separate homes. The secret meetings between Grace and Miss Clark have been unknown to Mr. Woods. They had been planning it for months. Exquisite preparation had occurred. Now, it was go time.
They were in the clear, but no one knew it. Miss Clark, an expert with computers and hacking, sat down at the small, worn table to finalize the plans. Grace and Miss Clark discussed for about 3 hours now that they were alone. They planned, planned, and planned some more. They were calm, sneaky, and intelligent. After a long day of work, before bedtime, Miss Clark chimed “Grace, you ready?” “Yep. Denver in the morning.” she replied.
They both got up in the morning to an unusual feeling. Grace, who had been living with just her Dad for the past 5 years, received an awkward feeling when she woke up with Miss Clark in her house and not her father. Miss Clark felt different as well because she had been living by herself. They got up and checked Grace’s bags together. Miss Clark had supplied Grace with most of the necessary tools she needed to complete their plan. “The taxi should be here in 10 minutes. Are you all set?” questioned Miss Clark. “Yep, I’ll text you when I get to T.F. Green. It should take me only 10 to 15 minutes to get there.”
Grace walked through the same moany, creaky, splintered wood door that her Dad had just walked out of about 24 hours before. She stepped outside and hopped into the small yellow car. The taxi driver said “What are you doing young lady? Shouldn’t you be with your parents around this time of year?” “No sir” mumbled Grace. “My…. My parents aren’t with me this year for the holidays” she said. In reality she wasn’t lying because her father had just been arrested and her mom passed away, but she didn’t really care. She was just deceiving the taxi driver. She pretended to fight back tears, but she felt no emotional stress at all. The taxi driver drove her to the airport. She bought some food once she got there. She boarded the plane at 11:00 AM.
The plane ride went smoothly, and she landed. Denver, Colorado. There she was. 15 year old Grace, all grown up, all by herself. She wasn’t nervous because of all her planning. After all she was a very smart girl. She took another taxi back to a house in Denver. This wasn’t just any house. This was Miss Clark’s former house before she moved to Rhode Island. Left behind in the house were a lot of things needed for Grace to succeed. That morning Miss Clark gave a call to SDHS. She said “Hello this is Mrs. Johnson, mother of Kate Johnson. My daughter and I just moved to Denver, and I was looking for a new school for Kate to go to.” The South Denver High School principal replied saying that the school has a few open spots in the sophomore class and she thinks that Kate will be a great fit.
(text from Miss Clark to Grace)
“All set. Kate Johnson. Sophomore at SDHS.”
Grace walked into her new school with a little bit of nerves. She met a few new teachers including Mrs. O’Donnell. Mrs. O’Donnell was a very nice lady. She was drinking a hot cup of tea. She took a sip and coughed. “Wow that is very strong” she said as she coughed again. Mrs. O’Donnell helped Grace adjust to the new school and her surroundings. Grace was very nice and polite to her and they began to bond. Grace knew she could trust Mrs. O’Donnell and vice versa. Grace attended her first class and the first person she saw and wanted to be acquainted with was Tim. Tim, a 5’11’’ inch tall 16 year old boy with blonde hair, was looking at Grace a little funny so she went over there to clear things up. She said “Hi I’m Kate. Kate Johnson.” “Nice to meet you Kate. I’m Tim” he replied. She explained to him that she was a new student and that she was looking forward to make some friends. Tim told her that they could be friends and that she seemed like a pretty cool girl.
The school day dragged on and surprisingly, just after the first day of school, Grace got exactly what she was looking for. Tim came up to Grace at her locker after school and exclaimed “Hey Kate, I’m having a few of my friends over for a Christmas party after school tonight. Since it’s a Friday we can stay out pretty late at my place if you would like that.” Grace was extremely excited, but she had keep her cool. She agreed and the stage was set.
That afternoon Grace came home to her new house in Denver. It was an extremely high-tech home with a lot of resources inside of it. It was so exquisite that when Miss Clark had the carpenters build it, she had it built very mediocre on the exterior and not as nice as the interior. Grace got home and contemplated. She sat on the memory foam mattress and just sat and thought. Was this right? Was it moral? Was it okay to do? She thought about all these things, but relatively quickly disregarded them. She gave herself the courage to get the job done. She had contemplated for about 2 hours and then she decided.
(texting conversation between Miss Clark and Grace)
HC: What are you doing?!?! It’s 8:00 and you're not at his house yet
GW: Relax. I got it. I’m about to leave. I’ll take your Bentley over.
HC: Sure. You can take any car you want. Just hurry up. You need to be in and out.
GW: Okay. Will do.
Grace arrived at the party. She saw Tim and they greeted each other. Tim introduced Grace to his friends, Abby and John. Tim took Grace and his other friends down to the basement. They had music playing and people were eating food. This chaos was perfect for Grace to complete her mission. Grace told Tim “Tim, where is your bathroom, I need to go real quick.” “Sure Kate. Up the stairs. Take a left. It should be the first door on the right.” She took off like she needed to go real bad. She went up the stairs onto the main floor, but she didn’t stop there. She went up another floor onto the floor where the bedrooms were. She searched Tim’s draws. BINGO! A credit card. “This is just like stealing candy from a baby” she whispered to herself. Grace took the card and slipped it into her back pocket. She then took out of her bag a siren alarm. This was a small device that could play music. She set it off very loud and threw it out of Tim’s bedroom window onto the lawn in the backyard. The people at the party in the basement heard the music that drowned out their own music. Just like she planned they all went outside into the backyard to see what the chaos was. Grace then made a run for it. She heard someone behind her and she realized she couldn’t make it back to her own car. So she ran through the house into the garage and into Tim’s car. She hit the garage door opener and slowly backed out, unnoticed. Grace was in and out of there so quickly it was only 11:00.
At 11:15 Abby said to Tim “Isn’t that Kate’s car right there in front of your house”. “Oh my goodness!” Yeah I think it is. I saw her drive up in that car.” I better tell someone at school tomorrow. “Well, how did she leave then?” asked Tim. “I don’t know. She must be around here somewhere since she doesn’t have her car.” replied Abby. “I’ll go find her. Let’s take my car around the neighborhood to see where she is, and make sure she’s okay.”
(Abby and Tim leave the house and enter the garage)
“Oh my God! My car isn’t here. Kate must’ve stolen it! She’s a thief! A crook! Let’s go back outside to make sure that was Grace’s car. I don’t want to falsely accuse her of this. Abby and Tim went back outside. They looked at the license plate on the 2012 Volvo car. The plate red “HClarkHax” The two teenagers were very confused by this. Who was H.ClarkHax? They opened the car door. There was a laying on the driver's seat. It was a picture of Grace, her dad, and her mom. The picture had a note on the back. The note said
“Grace, here is a picture of me, your mom, and you. It is just a little reminder of how much I love you and your mother in heaven probably feels the same way. Merry Christmas. Love Dad. Tim was awestruck. The little girl in the picture was Kate. She had been deceiving him the whole time. Her name wasn’t really Kate Johnson… It was Grace.
The next day at school, Tim went in to Mrs. O’Donnell’s office. Mrs. O’Donnell wasn’t in school that day. Tim decided to email her. His email read:
“Mrs. O’Donnell, Kate, one of the new students at the school came over to my house yesterday, and she left her car here. And my car from my garage is gone! Kate is a thief and you need to track her down! And her real name isn’t even Kate Johnson... It is Grace. You need to help me stop her.
Tim.

“But why daddy?” mumbled Grace. “Honey there is so much to explain. I don’t know where to start. It will all be worked out. I promise.” exclaimed Mr. Woods. “Grace you need to live with your STEP
Tims phone buzzed. He had received an email. It read:
“Sorry Tim, unfortunately I can not do anything about it right now. Kate is a very wonderful girl and she would never do anything like that especially steal your car or tell you a fake name. I appreciate your concern, but I believe you are mistaken. Maybe one of your parents took your car for the day.
Thanks, Mrs O’Donnell

Story Analysis:
"Hi, My Name is Kate Johnson " is the ultimate story of a dynamic character and deception. The protagonist Grace Woods, acts as an innocent girl. She pretends to be sad that her dad is being arrested, and then when her dad leaves, she is given a picture of her and her parents. Her mom is dead and her dad is being put in jail. Once her dad is taken away by cops, she is all set to unravel her plan. Grace is now left with her dad’s girlfriend(Hannah Clark) whom Mr. Woods thinks that Grace had never met, but Grace had been meeting with her dad's girlfriend and thinks of her as her step mom. During their meetings they plan their mission to send Grace away, under a false identity(Kate Johnson:hence the title), to Denver(Grace’s dad’s girlfriend’s former town). The plan is for Grace to fly to Denver, and live in Mrs. Clark,(her stepmom's) house by herself. Her plan is to get acquainted and deceive the kids of the local high school under her false identity so that she can end up at a party at one of their houses. She is successful on her first day and goes to a christmas party that night. She goes to a SDHS student's house named Tim. When she gets there she asks to go to the bathroom and gets the partiers distracted. She goes up to Tim’s room and steals his credit card. She then steals his car on her way out during her escape. Tim and another party guest, Abby, realize that she is gone and notice that her car is still there. They then come to a conclusion that if her car is still at Tim’s house and she has only been gone for 15 minutes, she must’ve walked away and that she is relatively close by. They go to get into to Tim’s car so that they can drive around searching for her, when they realize Tim’s car is gone. They are now furious and realize Grace is a thief. They go to check out Grace’s car to see if they notice anything suspicious since they think that Grace is guilty. They notice the license plate is “HClarkHax” They don’t know what this means. They open the car door and find the same picture that Grace’s dad gave her when he was being taken away. The to Denver native teens,Tim and Abby, then find out Grace’s real name is Grace not Kate Johnson. They are furious that they were being abused and used. Tim emails a school teacher (Mrs. O’Donnell) about their situation. At the end of the story Tim receives an email back from what he thinks is Mrs. O’Donnell saying that Kate (Grace) would never do such a thing. But really it was Miss Clark that hacked into Mrs. O’Donnell’s email and sent that email to cover up for Grace. The last line of the story is key to finding out that Miss Clark hacked the email. The last line is the conclusion of the email.
“Thanks, Mrs. O’Donnell.
(sent from Rhode Island)
We know from earlier in the story that Miss Clark is controlling things back in RI behind the scenes and I left it for the reader to find out that it was Miss Clark that fixed the whole situation with the emails but I gave the hint (sent from Rhode Island)
Another hard thing to pick out of this story is why Mrs. O'Donnell was out of school the day after the party. I have a foreshadow that Mrs. O’Donnell would be out when I made her cough and say that the Rhode Island coffee she was drinking was very strong, inferring that Miss Clark poisoned it before she shipped it. I left it a mystery for the reader’s mind to decide for themselves why Miss Clark and Grace started crime in the first place. Maybe it was because Grace had grown up her entire life with her father being a criminal. Maybe she needed to steal the credit card when she was poor. I also made an allusion to TF Green airport. I built up the suspense with all the preparations between Miss Clark and Grace and the texts between them. I used a flashback and told the readers that Grace’s mom had past away in the past. I also used a simile when Grace said “Just like stealing candy from a baby”
