The Last Flight
“Flight 182 is now boarding.” I heard over the loudspeaker. My heart dropped. I am going to Disney World with my family and they’re making me fly. I hate planes, and I hate heights. “Let’s go!” my mom yelled at me. “You know I didn’t want to do this mom, I’m scared.” But I know that it is already too late. We have our tickets, and this has been planned for so long, I just wish I could back out of it though. “I have such a bad feeling about this.” I said to my sister Anne. As we got up, I grabbed “Annes hand and held on to it tightly. When we got to the plane I hesitated to get on it, but my Anne pulled me by my hand and made me get on. When we found our seats I sat down. I was in the middle seat with Anne on my right, and this little girl who looked no older than about 8, sitting to my left. The little girl was freaking out, screaming and crying, and her mom was no where around. 5 minutes went by, when this lady came up to me and said “ Excuse me, I’m sorry to bother you, but do you think you can switch me seats? That’s my daughter right there, and she wants me to sit by her so I can help to calm her down, she is scared out of her mind right now.” You and me both kid, I thought to myself. I kind of just sat there for a minute, I didn’t know what to say. I wanted to stay by Anne because that is where I feel most safe right now, but if I say no I will feel like a bad person. Finally, I looked back up at the lady and said “Yeah, that’s fine.” I looked at Anne. “Everything will be fine.” She said, and kissed my hand, and let go. I got up and followed the lady to where my new seat was. It was only 6 rows forward from Anne, but those 6 rows make a big difference to me.
I sat down next to this girl who looked to be about my age, her boyfriend was on the other side of her. “Hi, what’s your name?” she asked. “I’m Abbie” “I’m Caroline, and this is my boyfriend Mark, this is Mark’s first time flying so he is a little freaked out.” she giggled. “Oh, really? This is my first time flying too, I’m probably way more nervous than he is.” We all shared a laugh. “It just really sucks because I just got separated from my sister, and I really only felt safe with her.” Caroline seemed like she didn’t know what to say, which I understood. “I’m really sorry, if there is anything I can do to help you, just let me know, I’d be glad to help!”
“We will be taking off in 5 minutes. Please fasten your seatbelts and remain in your seats until addressed to do otherwise please. Thank you.” I quickly fastened my seatbelt. I started counting down the minutes. It came down to one minute. “Alright everyone, we will be taking off now. Please keep your seatbelts on until you are told otherwise, thank you.” I am so terrified, and I want off now. I want my sister. The plane started to slant upwards. I felt like I was gonna puke.
A few minutes have passed and I got used to it. Now that we’re up in the air I feel a lot more relaxed. “I guess this isn’t that bad.” I turned to Caroline. “I told you that it’s not that bad!” she said smiling. About 30 minutes have passed, which means there’s only about an hour and a half left. I got up to go see how my sister and parents. My sister was out cold, of course. My parents were playing weird old people games on their phones, so I didn’t bother to talk to them.
I had to pee really bad, so I made my way to the bathroom. I got in there and shut and locked the door. When I got done using the bathroom, I turned the water on and started to wash my hands, when all of a sudden everything was shaking. Someone was pounding on the door yelling at me telling me that I need to return to my seat immidietly. I came out of the bathroom and everyone on the plane started to freak out, they’re all so scared. I sat back down and asked Caroline what was going on. “We’re in a thunderstorm, don’t be alarmed though it’s normal.” I was more than alarmed though, I was scared out of my mind. I kept taking deep breathes, all I wanted to do was cry and be by my sister. The planes alarm started going off, and the oxygen masks fell from the ceiling. The alarms were so long they hurt my ears. I heard this big crack of thunder. All I could think about is my family. Caroline grabbed my hand as she was holding Mark’s with her other hand. The plane felt like it was slanting down. All of a sudden I saw a big bolt of lightning, it took the left wing of the plane off. The plane was spinning out of control. Me and Caroline both started to cry and scream. I shut my eyes, I didn’t want to see any of this. As my eyes were shut I heard another big crack of thunder. Everything suddenly became quiet. I opened my eyes back up and I was laying in my bed, confused. I jumped out of bed, and ran down the stairs to my mom, She saw me and asked, “Are you ready for this long car ride to Disney World?”
