Breaking Point
It was a triumphant day for young police officer James Buchanan. He was awarded the key to the city by the mayor of Brooklyn. James earned the award for most arrests in his department. He has had a reputation for nailing perps and thugs for years. He finally got what was coming to him after his years of commitment. It was a nice sunny fall day during this momentous celebration. So when James finally left the building with his key, the sky clouded and he started to feel a slight breeze around his chest. Then a limousine pulled up in front of the sidewalk, and an old man with a dark mustache, wearing a white hat and white suit pulled out along with his henchman. James is pretty sure he has never seen him in his life. Then he started to zone out for a couple of minutes and started to develop flashbacks. Soon there after he figured out who the man was. The man’s name was Marko Flint. He was the local drug kingpin for years, and he was the man that ruined James’ childhood. 30 years earlier, James’ mother used to work for Marko and his drug cartel to provide for her family since they were poor, and there was no father around. But that eventually came to a halting end when they were all busted by the DEA and SWAT team. But fortunately James’ mother got immunity from the District Attorney in exchange for her testimony against Marko and the rest of his organization. Marko found out eventually and so the night before the trial started, Marko and his henchman broke into her apartment then started to brutally rape and stab her to death right in front of a 2 year old James just so she won’t testify in court. So 30 years later, an older James and a really older Marko stand face to face.
“Hello boy, its been a while!”, Marko squealed.
“Have we met?” James stammered. This man looked strangely familiar, but who was he?
James just couldn’t place it.
“You’re mother used to work for me!” Marko shouted. “She was a very good employee and it was unfortunate that she died the way she did.” Marko said.
“My mother? My mother...she died. Wait. Did you know that already?” James was now confused, but eerily curious. Who was this man? Why was he so sure about his mother?
“Hey man I know it’s been a while and you don't remember that much but I’m here to make up our troubled past and offer you a deal.” Marko replied.
“What deal?” James asked confusingly.
“How would you like to make a little side money and be one of the muscle in my organization?” Marko asked. “I happen to run a very successful “Business” and I have a lot of dangerous haters that doubt my work ethic.” Marko muttered.
“Thanks but no thanks.” James said. “Now that I remember, I know who you are now!” James shouted. “You’re the local drug kingpin in this city and you’re one of the last people that saw my mother alive!” James shouted. “I’ve spent years catching dirtbags like you and putting them in their place, so take my advice and back the f*** off!” James screamed.
“Okay, well so be it.” Marko said. “You’ve potentially just made the biggest mistake of your life, you and your family might just suffer the same fate like your snitch of a mother!” Marko cried.
James winds up getting very pissed off, that he pulled his gun out and attempted to blow Marko’s head in broad daylight in front of 50 other people. Cops and other officials eventually came in and held James back while Marko hurried back into the limo with his henchman and took off. All of James’ problems were coming back to him and this was only the beginning for the worse things to come for him professionally and personally. So later the next day, because James was awarded the key to the city by the mayor, he was also promoted to Lieutenant by the chief of police and the rest of his department. But as the weeks went on, crime has increased all over Brooklyn and it was all mainly dealing with drugs and murder. The recently promoted Lieutenant James has been called in to the case along with most of his squad and the DEA to nail most of the dirtbags. They noticed a big connection to all these crimes and Marko Flint seemed to be the link behind all of this. So as the weeks went on, more perps were arrested and most of the drug organizations ran by Marko were shut down. But there was one problem though, there was no sign of Marko anywhere.
“Go home James. You’ve done enough already and you need a break. We can handle this.” Captain Baileygates said.
“No I can’t! He already killed my family once when I was a child and he threatened to do the same to my own. As long as Marko is still out there and breathing the same air like I am, it will never be over for me!” James screamed.
“Go home and protect your family James! You’ve proven to be a liability in this case James. We want that Marko scumbag just as much as you do, but we want him in alive and in custody, NOT DEAD!” Captain Baileygates shouted.
“Fine Captain, I’ll do it. But I will keep my eyes out for that creep and I’ll always be awake.” James warned Captain Baileygates.
So James followed his captain’s orders and went home until the dust had finally settled. But as he was driving home, he still had Marko in his mind. He had started to hear his heart beat faster each minute and he had a strange feeling that Marko was closer than he thought. Or it could be his adrenaline running from that argument that he just had with his captain. So as he walked into his apartment home with his wife and son waiting for him, his worst fears have been realized. He found Marko alright but with him standing on top of a beaten, battered, stabbed, and bloody corpse that was once his wife. His kid out of the living room laying on the couch disoriented from the drugs that was just injected in his arm from Marko. So James out of anger ferociously attacked Marko and beats him over an inch of his life. Then he threw his sorry, psychotic, punk ass self through the window and watched him fall 2 stories down. Marko landed face first onto the sidewalk at a very fast pace. During the incident, James wasn’t a cop, he was just a man wanting revenge. 45 minutes later, cops and ambulances were called. While James was outside grieving and trying to calm down, 2 men wearing suits and brown trench coats came up to him and started asking him a few questions.
“Are you Buchanan?” The one person asked.
“Yes…” James replied.
“We need you to come with us and ask you a few questions.” The other person said.
“Who are you people?” James asked confusingly.
“We’re from the Internal Affairs Bureau. Come with us sir, your career depends on it.” They said.
So James went with them. The reason why they came was because of what he did to Marko. He was specifically told to arrest Marko no matter what happens. He disobeyed an order from his captain. James may not get punished by the law at this point but his career was in jeopardy. He lost his mother and wife because of this sick bastard named Marko Flint. He even has to attend his drugged 3 year old son in the hospital. Now he might lose his job too. But what would you expect, James was at his breaking point and at that point, he had nothing else to lose. But that didn’t do him any favors, he basically just lost everything, and his life is basically ruined. This was the saddest and traumatic experience of James’ life. He will never be the same again.
