A New Addition

SCREECH! My mom and I flew around the corner of Banana Boulevard.

“Target, here we come” my mom exclaimed. We had been talking about going to Target for months now and we finally decided to go there.

“Mom! Look, over there at PetSmart, they’re having an adoption!” I told her as we pulled into the parking lot. My mom gave me the are-you-really-going-to-go-there look and I immediately knew that it was not an option. Maybe I can convince Winnie to drive me tomorrow, I thought.

After our trip to Target, we hauled our bags out to the car and drove back home, jamming to 103.3, rolling the windows down and driving with the top down. Our house was a mere 12 minutes from Target and we got there in a flash. I jumped out of the car and hung bags up and down my arms. Pulling my keys out of my pocket, I typed in our garage door pin code and unlocked the door. I dumped the groceries onto the kitchen counter and walked into my bedroom. I plopped onto my bed, my favorite place on earth, and pulled out my white iPhone out of my pocket. I powered it on, 4:29. “Ah”, I winced, I love my lock screen so much, a coral anchor with navy blue and white stripes. I unlocked it, typed in my password, 5,6,7,8, and clicked on the messages tab. Scrolling down my messages list and i couldn’t find Winnie’s name. Then, aha! I found Winnie’s contact. “Winnie, want to come over tonight? I saw an adoption at PetSmart and I want to go tomorrow and see the puppies! There might be one I want! Call me!” I texted her, and waited for her to answer.

I laid out on my pastel floral comforter, flopped my head on my ruffly blue and pink pillow, grabbed my Macbook and logged in. Once I got in, I checked my social networking sites, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and Tumblr until they were practically dead. I checked the time, 6:57 and realized that I should probably go and get some dinner. I walked into the kitchen and glanced at our refridgerator, new, shiny and gray. I grasped the handle and opened it up. I stood in front of the open refrigerator. Ugh, I hate this feeling, you know, that teenage feeling when you feel like you could eat everything in your refrigerator and your nextdoor neighbors’ refrigerator too? But then you think, “Ummm, that’s probably not very healthy”, and you go for something better.

“I’ll just have a quesadilla” I thought, so I grabbed out the tortillas, shredded cheese and got a dinner plate from the cupboard. I made my quesadilla and heated it up in the microwave, while it was cooking, I cut up an apple and got a big spoonful of peanut butter for them. I made a piping hot mug full of sleepytime tea. I carried all of my dinner into my bedroom and sat it all on my white nightstand.

I ate my dinner and surfed the web. My mom walked into my room.
“Sydnie, I know that you really want a dog and you can go get one tomorrow, but
you can’t drive, and I have work tomorrow. Why don’t you call Winnie?” she asked.

“Mom, I texted her and..” Just then my phone went off. “It’s Winnie!” I exclaimed. “Syd, 10 minutes?” I read out loud. “Mom?” She just smiled and nodded. I quickly texted her back and scarfed down my dinner. I made my bed, cleaned up my room and put on some comfy clothes.

DING DONG! I heard the doorbell. “Winnie!” I shouted. I walked to the front door and let her in. I grabbed one of her bags and led her to my room. We changed into our pajamas and laid on my bed. I turned on a movie and we snuggled up and fell asleep.
In the morning I just felt like I had woke up on the wrong side of the bed. I didn’t feel all that well and just wasn’t in a great mood. Forehead sweating, I got over it and Winnie and I walked out to the kitchen. “Mmmm, bacon!” said Winnie. We devoured our breakfast and ran back to my room to get on some clothes. Winnie brushed out her hair.
“Winnie! Your outfit is gorgeous!” I exclaimed. “Where is it all from?” Winnie had a cropped pink flowy top with rhinestone straps, dark wash shorts with sparkly back pockets. Her hair, blonde, long and luscious was in a side braid and her bangs were curled in beautiful mermaid curls. She looked beautiful, her hair looked beautiful and her clothes were beautiful as it always is.
“Syd, wanna take a run to Starbucks?” Winnie asked. I nodded and handed her a $5.00 bill. We ran out the door and shouted to my mom that we were taking a drive to get some coffee. When we got to Starbucks, we saw that the adoption at PetSmart was still going on. I whipped out my phone and speed dialed my mom.
“Mom, the adoption is still going on! Can we please get a puppy?” she just answered with a yes. We jumped with joy and ran into PetSmart.
SCREECH! We spun around the corner with my new puppy sitting on my lap.
