“I’ll meet you by your locker before lunch. Okay?” said my boyfriend, Darren. He was 5’11”, had blond, messy hair that covered his right eye; and his eyes were a stunning green. In other words, he was the guy whom all the girls wanted and every guy envied. That doesn’t mean he didn’t have any friends. He was one of the most popular guys at Lakeview High School. Can you blame him? He was Lakeview’s star basketball player, captain of the baseball and football teams, and student body president. On the other hand, I was viewed as average and plain. I was 5’2”, had long, black hair that reached my lower back, and plain blue eyes. Sure, I had plenty of friends; but I wouldn’t be categorized as popular.
“Kk. I’ll be waiting,” I said. It still felt like a fantasy, how the most popular, cute, loving, and caring guy would pick me to be his girlfriend. We separated and headed to first period.

Brrinng! The bell rings and I pick up my books and head to my locker, so I can put away my things away before lunch. After putting my books away, I wait, and wait, and wait. Looking down at my watch, I notice that I had been waiting there for ten minutes. Thinking something might be wrong, I start walking down the hallway. As I turn the corner, I see two figures locked in a tight embrace. Thinking nothing of it, I keep walking. As I approach the two figures I can make out the girl’s face. It’s none other than Jessica Richards, my best friend. As the guy turns his head, his hair falls back and I gasp. It’s Darren.

I turn on my heel and run the other way. My feet are continuously hitting the tiled floor with a loud smack, so I can barely hear the shouting. “Ava! Come back!” It’s Darren, go figure.
“Go away!” I yell. I’m secretly thankful that everyone was at lunch. It would be so embarrassing if everyone was watching.
“Ava! It’s not what it looks like!” Having just gotten out of the school, I stop dead in my tracks at this comment. My anger and sorrow were now being covered by my rising fury. How dare he say that? What, did he trip and land on her lips? I doubt it.
“Tell me, Darren, what was it since, apparently, I don’t know what I saw or what I know?”

“I was walking around the corner, heading towards the cafeteria to meet you, when Jessica starting talking to me. The next thing I know, she’s kissing me. I swear I had nothing to do with it.”

“I don’t believe you.” I state, before heading towards my car. It’s healthy to skip once in a while.

Taking my keys from my back pocket, I unlock my Mercedes S55 AMG. Closing my door and putting in the keys, I’m about to pull out when there’s a tap on the window. Knowing who it is, I roll down the window and impatiently ask, “What do you want, Darren. As you can see, I’m trying to leave.”

“I love you, Ava.” He says, making the fury rise up again at his atrocious lie. “I have and will always love you. I just want to know why you don’t believe me.”

“Can I see your phone, please?” I ask, knowing he’d do anything to get me to believe him. Little did he know, he had just handed me a very big clue that screams, “I’M CHEATING ON YOU!” Flipping the phone open, I look at his recent calls. All 49 numbers happen to be Jessica’s.

“Unbelievable.” I whisper, throwing the phone back to him.

“What are you talking about?” Darren asks, still hopelessly confused.

“First off, all of your calls have been made to Jessica. What are you? Stupid? If you’re going to cheat on me, at least erase the evidence. Secondly, you were suppose to meet me by my locker, moron.” With that, I pull out the parking lot and head home, leaving a very stunned Darren standing in the middle of the parking lot, looking like an idiot.
Reaching my house, I run inside and up the two flights of stairs to get to my room. Finally, reaching my destination, I pull my garbage can over to my bulletin board, and start taking down all of my pictures of Darren and Jessica.

Sitting on my bed, staring at the overflowing garbage can and bare bulletin board, I know I won’t cry tonight. I knew he was too good to be true, and I’m just happy that I had a few months with him. I know he was, no, is a jerk; but I will still keep those precious moments we had together in my head to revisit when I’m old and married. It was now time to forget about the past and focus on the future. It was time to move on.
