Wall of Rejection
“Almost done… and send!” Click. Lou Sir sighed as he emailed his twenty-seventh college application to Hill College. He spun around in his chair with his face on the palms of his sweaty hands. Lou graduated one year ago, and has yet to be accepted to a college.
Mrs. Sir knocks on the ajar door, “May I come in, honey?” Lou motions for her to enter. She is carrying a tray of milk and cookies, a snack she always made when Lou receives disappointing news. Underneath the tray, she held a letter from Texas Tech. As Lou devours the chocolate chip cookies, Mrs. Sir hands him the already opened letter.
"What's this?" Lou mumbles as he eats the heavenly goodness.
"It's from Texas Tech." Mrs. Sir quietly whispers as she backs out of the room.
Pulling out the letter, Lou grows anxious. He unfolds the champagne colored paper, and it reads:
"Mr. Lou Sir,
Here at Texas Tech, we want students who will achieve in all they do. As we carefully examined your application, you did not meet our standards. We regret to inform you that you will not be attending our campus this coming Fall. Try again next year.
Sincerely,
Director of Admissions"
A shriek that reached the heavens expelled from his chocolatey mouth. He ran to his bed, reached for a pillow and launched it against the wall. Two framed photos of his hero, Justin Bieber, fell from the wall and shattered. Lou picked up a wooden chair, raised it over his short, curly, dirty blonde hair, and slammed it against the ground. Steam coming from his ears and face tomato red, he punched the wall. A small dent and a broken fist. He shrieks in pain and agony. A sound so terrible, it made a deaf man cry. Lou runs in circles and kicks everything in his path. A My Little Pony plush. His One Direction “action figures. His Hello Kitty blankie. And his stack of anime movies. Enraged Lou falls to the ground. He has had enough. Knocking everything off of the blue painted walls, glass flows like a wave across the floor. He rips all posters, and shatters every movie and game he possesses. This is the beginning of an end. Twenty-six rejection letters. Twenty-six.
Two hours later, he walks out of his room, he sees his parents waiting on the couch. “Hey honey, we ordered your favorite food and bought you ice cream! We also rented your favorite movie! Never Say Never! You can sing along with Justin!” Mrs. Sir eagerly says.
“No thanks mom. I’m okay.” Lou mumbles.
“Honey, we insist, right Harry.” Mrs. Sir eyes Mr. Sir.
“Of course, we need family time.” Mr. Sir says half-heartedly.
“I’ll just eat my pizza and ice cream in my room… but thanks.” He stumbles into his room, and cleans up his room. Lou throws away all of his childish toys and paraphernalia. Then, he logs onto his laptop and looks for a job. “It’s time for a change.”
