Friendships 

Liz lives with her two loving parents. She just moved to town so she is going to a new school. She's a junior and is excited to make new friends. 

  When she goes to her first class she sits next to a girl named Kaley. Kaley was really nice to Liz. Kaley showed her all of her classes, she sat with her in lunch, she even showed her all of the short cuts for all of her classes. They both end up having most of their classes together. Their math teacher had even asked them if they were sisters because they had similar features that made them look alike.

After school Liz had invited Kaley to come over to her house so they could get to know a little bit more about each other. Liz’s mom Jenney was being so welcoming towards Kaley. Jenny had told Liz that she had made her favorite dish which was lasagna, she had also bought her favorite little cake that said “Happy first day of school”. Kaley saw how thoughtful and caring Jenny was with her daughter; so she started to feel a little jealous. Because Kaley’s mom was never loving towards her. Her mom was mostly never home, because she would always be at work. But whenever she did have days off at work she would spend most of her time with her boyfriend. Kaley didn’t have a dad growing up; her dad had left them when Kaley was young. This is why she started to envy a little of Liz’s lifestyle.

Months passed and both Liz and Kaley became close. They study together, they would always go to Liz’s house and do their homework and watch movies when they’d finish with their homework. Liz’s mom Jenny loved having Kaley over, she would always greet her with a warning hug. Kaley’s mom almost never noticed that Kaley was at her friend's house. Kaley would always text her mom that she’ll be at her friend’s house, but she would almost never reply to her. She would just read the messages and not text her anything back. But Kaley was used to it didn’t really matter to her.

Liz and Kaley both wanted to try something new, so they decided to try out for the volleyball team; they were both really athletic too so that's why they wanted to try out a sport. They both tried their hardest to get in the team. When the results were announced they were both crying because they had got in the team. Throughout the whole year their team only lost one out of ten. Once volleyball season ended their coach was talking about colleges that offered scholarships, but one really stood out to Liz which was Stanford University. She was hoping Kaley wanted to go to that University. Liz had asked her “So which college stood out to you” Kaley said “I was about to ask you the same thing”. Liz said “Let's both say it at the same time. Ready one two three’’ Kaley and Liz “Stanford!!”. They were both smiling so big and laughing so loud like when a little kid earns a prize for being good. Liz was so delighted but so heartbroken because Stanford had only one scholarship left for volleyball. But Kaley on the other hand was not unhappy, Kaley was afraid and envious that Liz would get the opportunity to get in and not her. So she lied to Liz and told her “Liz I really don’t want to tell you this but feel like I really have to, I need this scholarship more than you do. My mom is extremely poor. She really doesn’t have money saved up for me to go to college and this scholarship could really save my mom and me a lot of money”. Liz being an extraordinary and caring friend, gave her the chance to get the scholarship she needed. 

Kaley ended up getting the scholarship she supposedly “needed”. Liz was so happy for her, but she never showed how sorrowful she actually was to Kaley. Liz didn’t want to make Kaley feel awful for giving her a better opportunity in getting the scholarship. Something didn’t feel right to Liz. She started to notice that Kaley had new clothes almost everyday. Kaley would almost never repeat an outfit. Liz wanted to ask her something about her clothes, but instead she asked her “When can we go to your house, when can we go meet your mom. I’ve always wondered why we never really went to your house. I want to see how your room is, how big your closet is, and how you decorated your room”. Kaley told her with a worried and concerned look “Because my mom is usually never home, and plus your room is way bigger than mine’’. Kaley was obviously lying in reality her house was way bigger than Liz’s. But Liz didn’t give up there; she asked Kaley’s old friends where she lived. Her old friends found it odd that Kaley’s so-called “best friend” wouldn’t know where she lived. But thankfully one of them did tell Liz where Kaley lived, so Liz drove to the address they gave her and noticed how huge Kaley’s house was. She knew right away that it was her house because Kaley's car has a sticker that’s really noticeable. That’s when Liz started to think to herself “why would Kaley do this, I just simply don’t get it?” Liz could feel Kaley laughing in her face. Liz realized that she could never trust Kaley.

Liz planned to confront Kaley but she didn’t. She didn’t want to waste her time on her so-called “best friend”. So she just simply just stopped talking to her and blocked Kaley from everything on her phone. Kaley noticed that she blocked her from social media, but she kinda had a feeling why she did it. That day that Liz went to drive by her house Kaley thought she saw Liz drive by. Kaley did not care what so ever, she said to herself “she was going to find out eventually so why bother explaining myself to her”

They both never ended up confronting each other. Kaley never went to Stanford because her mom switched jobs. Because she wanted to work with her boyfriend. Liz ended up going to Harvard and making trustworthy friends
