The Tree

Summer ended and the leaves on the Tree are green. As school starts, students walk past the Tree, giving it no attention. As a few months passed by, the Tree wanted more attention from the students, so it decided to change the color of its leaves from light green to a beautiful bright red.

A few more months pass by, the Tree becomes depressed that no one plays with it, and the leaves slowly start to wither, falling off. That’s when the students finally notice the Tree. They jump in the leaves and play in it. The Tree was happier than ever. But one day, that evil gardener decides to take away its happiness away from the Tree. He blew all the leaves away and the students go back to running frantically to their classes. (I have nothing against gardeners) The Tree is once again alone.  As the students leave for winter break, and the Tree becomes lonelier than ever, so it decides to sprout new leaves so the students could give it more attention.

As spring comes, the students start coming back, and of course, no one ever noticed the Tree. As years and years go on, the same thing every year. Generations of students walked by, and nobody was ever aware of it until it died.

In this set-piece, I chose to experiment with personification and symbolism. You can see the Tree feeling lonely and sad. It signifies the people in our society doesn’t pay attention to the small things in life, until it’s too late.
