Nothing Lasts Forever

The wind blows through my hair. I shiver and wrap my arms around my coat. I see leaves fall from the trees and hear them crunch beneath my feet. Walking down the sidewalk, I hear the river crashing into the rocks nearby. As I take off my boots and stick my feet into the water, I shiver again. The rocks scrape the bottom of my foot as the salt stings the cuts. More leaves fall to the ground. I lean back into the grass with my arms crossed beneath my head dissatisfied—so many unanswered questions in my mind waiting to be resolved.

I come back to the river. This time the leaves are all green, and the air is filled with the sweet smell of flowers. Again, I take off my shoes and put my feet into the river. The little fish swim past, tickling my toes. Like the seasons, I have changed. Smiling, I lean back into the field of flowers, and look up squinting at the sun. Nothing lasts forever.

I wanted to work on imagery and setting.
