September Sadness
A cool breezy September morning came with a loud knock on the white front patio door. Two middle-aged men in uniforms stood tall saluting the mother of two boys with honor and pride, delivering only a flag and bad news; the woman simultaneously began sobbing while going limp, causing her to fall into the soldier’s arms. She thanked the uniforms and shut the door softly. She walked aimlessly to the kitchen window where she reminisced the good days where her boys could be found laughing and playing. She had no idea how she was going to break the heart shattering news to loved ones.
Months later, looking out the window, she saw the shiny blue ribbon hanging on the oak tree waving proudly in the wind. The blue ribbon symbolizes the countless lives her boys saved and fought for while serving their country with pride. At the time of her tragic loss, the mother’s emotions were running wild. She regretted letting her children leave for war. The same day she saw the blue ribbon blowing in the breeze she realized she was not like any other normal mother; she was stronger than most. She knew that she was the strongest warrior trying to protect her boys. She raised her sons to be extraordinary humans. She taught them strength and perseverance. She knew the final breathe her boys took is the reason the flag still flies.
