hard times
Dominic was home alone. He was bored and depressed and wanted something to pass the time. He looked around the house for alcohol but he couldn’t find any. Dominic went to his grandparents medicine cabinet and found oxycodone. He took one pill out of the bottle and went down stairs to get a soda. He went up to his room, put the music on loud and took the oxycodone pill. He waited about 15 minutes and he started to feel high. Ten minutes into the high Dominic started feeling sick, he started sweating and started feeling like he was going to throw up. The high was a mixture of nausea, relaxation, while dosing in and out of reality. The next day Dominic took another pill but he didn’t get high, so he realized that he needed to do more in order to get high. Two days later he took two oxycodone pills and he was able to get high again.
During this time Dominic was not doing to good in school and he was feeling depressed. Dominic felt like the pills were an escape from his problems. He would soon realize that the pills would become part of his problems. He started taking three to four pills every day. Soon after, Dominic started taking muscle relaxants. He would take both the oxycodone and the muscle relaxers at the same time. It started getting out of control, Dominic was taking two muscle relaxants and three to four oxycodone every day. He starting realizing that his drug use was becoming a problem.
Alex came over to Dominic’s house; Alex is Dominic’s Aunts boyfriend. Dominic was very close to Alex. Dominic had trusted Alex with secrets that no one knew. Dominic asked Alex if they could have a private conversation in the backyard. Dominic told Alex everything that had been happening with his drug abuse. Dominic was high while they were talking. They talked for about twenty minutes. They went back inside. Dominic went back up to his room and took two more pills and listened to music. Alex wanted to help Dominic but he didn’t know what to do. Alex called Dominic’s parents and told them everything that had been going on with Dominic.
The next morning Dominic’s parents told Dominic that Alex had called them last night and they told Dominic what Alex had told them. They had a conversation. It was hard for Dominic to tell his parents what he was going through, he was crying the whole time while they were talking because it was so hard for him to open up to his parents.
Dominic quickly experienced withdrawals but he was doing better. He wasn’t popping pills and his depression was getting better. Dominic’s parents had meet up with this person named Caleb. Dominic’s parents did this so Dominic can have someone to talk and to open up about his problems. Dominic liked Caleb a lot and he felt like talking to Caleb was helping him. Dominic started to do really good in school he was getting straight A’s and his teacher Ms. Elizabeth seemed to be impressed with the work that Dominic was doing. At this point Dominic has been one month sober, rarely getting depressed, getting straight A’s, he started Tae Kwon Do and was doing good in that, and he was happy where he was at. One night, Dominic was doing his homework and he decided to call Alex. He called Alex and they talked for about ten minutes and Dominic told Alex “thank you for what you did for me and thank you for saving me”.
