"What the flute" -Johnny Suh

All my friends’ worlds are bursting with bright colors, and mine is black and white. You wouldn’t think seeing the world in black and white is that bad, until you must walk a day in my plain, white shoes. I will be able to see color only when I make direct eye contact with my soulmate. Everyone else my age already has their soulmates, for all I know, mine could be on the other side of the world. I’m thinking so much that I don’t even notice where I’m walking, and my thoughts are rudely interrupted by freezing cold water on my legs, seeping into my shoes and making my socks all soggy. I had walked right into the river. I came up, gasping at the surprise, and started to make my way back to land.

            “Woah hey are you ok?!”

I looked up at the deep voice, becoming shy, but when I went to answer that I was fine, I looked at him and he looked at me. My head started searing with pain and I closed my eyes to help make it stop. I was whimpering and shaking, and when I finally opened my eyes, the first thing I saw was green. Green grass, so vibrant that it made my head spin. Wait, I’m seeing color, I think I just met my soulmate. I looked at the man who spoke to me, and immediately got lost in his misty gray eyes.

“Did you just see colors?” He inquired softly while pulling me fully out of the water.

“Y-yeah I did.” I stuttered out, still in shock from what had just happened.

“Good, me too.” Said the gray eyed man as he grabbed my hand and laced our fingers together.

“I’m Hael, what’s your name cutie”? He whispered the last part into my ear, I blushed at the warmth of his breath and how close we were.

            “W-Wilder” I gulped.

“Ok, Wilder, let’s go get you dried off” He winked.

I about lost my breath as I nodded and walked off with him, our fingers interlacing as we walked back to my dorm.

I love the idea of soulmates being the ones who bring color into each other's worlds
