I am a Bumblebee.
Until sunset remains only one hour
before which I must find the perfect flower,
gift of its nectar to my esteemed Queen,
a chance for me to, at last, be seen…
As more than just a bumblebee.
I breeze effortlessly through the intertwining thorns of rose bushes, glide along invisible currents suspended above lush grass to find any pond, any meadow, any field where that perfect flower may grow. I hear a calling from not a rose, not a tulip, not a daisy, but from Madame Queen’s favorite of all:
~ Lilac! ~
Intricately arranged, creamy lavender-toned elongated blossoms that sing in the sunlight and twirl the sweetest, most exquisite nectar between their little petals that open beautifully like a peacock’s feathers… it is truly the one Madame will love! There is no time to lose!
I fill my woven leaf pouches to the tops with the delightful nectar and return to the hive, wings worn from unresting vibration.
“Madame Queen! Take one, take two.
This nectar is from one of few.
The lilac was a glorious view;
its sweetness I now bring for you.”
“My dear noble bumblebee,
such fine gifts you bring for me.
You now shall have opportunity
to stay in Palace, come and see!”
~
My life is now forever changed, for that generosity and commitment to perfection has brought me far beyond the common workplace and to the fine opportunity to serve Madame Queen in the Palace as her most noteworthy, special, and honorable… bumblebee!
