The Revenge
Myths and legends are famous across the lands. Once an old pirate told us his encounter with a “ghost ship”. “Lads! Today you are old enough to know the truth. Myths and legends are true, for I’ve seen one with my own eyes.
There was once a haunted ship called ‘The Revenge’. It’s a warship, from its name to its cannons. The ship was defeated near the Atlantic. After its defeat, rumors spread, saying that on the spot where it was destroyed ships would encounter The Revenge. In my curiosity, I ventured the Atlantic, hoping to find the ship.
Nearing the place where the rumors have told me to go, the fog thickened, and a figure of a ship appeared. I knew it was the ship, because I’ve never seen many cannons in my life, I knew I was done for. Its cannons fired, ethereal green flames filled my ship, skeletal pirates climbed aboard, me and my crew fighted for our lives. Eventually we were overrun and defeated. The soldiers took us as captives. For months they held us captive, for months, I nearly went insane, for the ship is haunted by the past endless screaming of the fallen crew when the ship was defeated.
One night, once again, curiosity had taken over me. I wandered the halls, looking for my crew, hoping to find an escape. When I was wandering I’ve found my crew, but when I opened the door, they collapsed, I rushed to them, checked their pulse, but there was no beat. I looked up and saw smoke rising from their bodies, forming humanoid figures, one said, ‘Whoever found our bodies will die, when we were cursed by the captain, he said ‘the only way to lift it is to kill a living creature’. I ran, and one of the skeletal crew was patrolling the ship. I crept behind it and tossed its skull, I grabbed its sword, glowing green, hoping it would kill the restless spirits of my crew. I turned sideways and faced the door, it was locked, I tried cutting the lock with my sword, but I was too slow, the spirits found me, I lashed the lock with my sword when the spirits advanced, the door opened and I rushed out. I was on the deck when the skeletal crew and the spirits attacked, I fought them, filled with rage, for they killed my crew, I believed I will die, but I continued attacking. The fight was long, I can’t believe I still live, I took a deep breath and looked around, bones littered across the floor, the fight was over. I looked for the helm, no one was there, I found a map and compass, I laughed, I did not know ghosts could get lost. I went north, days without land. After a few more days, I fainted, the ship hit something hard. I was happy, cottages and inns everywhere. I got off The Revenge.
On land, I asked a few villagers where I am. They told me I’m in Boston. I started a new life, I’ve found me a wife and I made a new ship in the shape of The Revenge and named it The Aquila, I still continued my life as a pirate and due to it looking like The Revenge. It became ‘The Ghost of The North Seas,’ and I lived peacefully from then.” The old pirate chuckled, and as we turned, the pirate shouted, “Beware of the Ghost of The North Seas.” And as I turned the pirate vanished.
