“Stop biting Katy!” Ms. Dennis yelled at Ally on the bus ride to the Birmingham Zoo. Ally was always into payback. If anyone ever flicked her, she’d kick them. If they kicked her, she’d bite them. And if they bit her that would make her the most mad. Ally would always get not just even but a little over even. Ally and Katy were still best friends though. Katy knew Ally had a temper but ever since Ally told off the boys that were making fun of Katy on the monkey bars they’ve been attached at the hip. “Get in a straight line!” Ms. Dennis demanded. As Katy walked off the bus fixing her new white shorts she looked around for Ally.
“She was right next to me a second ago.” Katy thought to herself. Katy couldn’t find her anywhere so she just hoped Ally was in line somewhere. As Katy started to walk with the rest of the class she felt a rock hit her. Katy stopped walking and looked around to see who did it. As Katy turned around she saw Ally hiding behind a trash can.
“Good thing you saw me. I was about to use these.” Ally said while showing Katy the other two rocks in her palm.
“What are you doing?” Katy asker her.
“We’re going to go exploring on our own!”
“But what about everyone else? We’ll get lost and get left in this stinky place!”
“Are you coming or not?” Ally asked while walking away slowly. Katy thought about it and gave in to Ally. Ally and Katy were off to the monkey exhibit. Once they got there Katy warned Ally of what the sign said,
“DO NOT PUT ANY BODY PARTS THROUGH OR IN THE CAGE.” Ally smirked and promised Katy she wouldn’t. Despite Katy’s better judgment she left Ally alone so she could go buy some monkey food out of the 25 cents dispenser. As Katy was walking back she heard screaming. As she got closer she saw Ally’s head stuck between two bars of the monkey’s cage. Katy threw the food on the ground and ran towards Ally. Pulling Ally as hard as she could, Katy knew her five year old muscles wouldn’t be able to get Ally’s big head out. Ally screaming at the top of her lungs didn’t make any of this easier and just made the monkey madder. When Katy looked up she realized the monkey was biting Ally’s nose. Katy pulled as hard as she could and finally Ally’s head came out of the bars and her body fell on top of Katy.
“Ally get off me!” Katy shouted as she looked down at her shorts. Katy’s shorts were no longer white but now covered with her wasted monkey food. As Katy got up off the concrete she noticed a stick being dragged on the ground. It was Ally.
“What are you doing?” Katy asked Ally.
“That monkey bit me and now he’s in trouble.” Ally stated. As Ally walked towards the cage with fire in her eyes and a stick in her hands she could barely lift, Katy wondered what she should do. Katy wasn’t sure whether to take out the Kodak camera her mom had bought her for this field trip or if she should stop Ally. Katy being the good friend she is, she snatched the stick out of Ally’s hand.
“Getting even isn’t always the best way. Let’s go catch up with our class. It’s almost lunch time!” Katy bribed her. Ally pouted all the way to lunch until she saw Ms. Dennis was passing out cookies. A smile lit up on her face until she realized it was shaped like a monkey. Biting that cookie as hard as she could, Ally ate it with hate. Katy could tell her advice had rubbed off or at least it helped a little. In the end Katy saved the monkey but the cookie not so much.
